I just purchased an unloaded Avatar Cab to use as my portable option to hauling myMarshall 4x12 in venues where I know there are a million flights of stairs, etc.
I'm dying to try it out, however I'm know confident in wiring of speakers and do not want to ruin my metro doing so.
The quesion is, I have two 16 Ohm speakers that I took out of my 4x12 to try the cab. I believe if I wire these two 16 ohm in parallel that should give me a 16 ohm load cabinet.
Is this correct and does anyone have a picture or a diagram of how to do it.

Re: 2X12 Speaker Wiring
Correction, if I wire two 16 ohm speakers in Parallel I will get an eight ohm load. That's pretty much the only combination I have available right now with two 16 ohm speakers and a 100 watt cab.
I know what two speakers in parallel look like on paper, however I am terrible at taking circuit diagrams and making them real.
The cross-over on the cab has one set of black and red wires on the in 1/4 jack and the out 1/4 jack with a jumper between.
Right now I just have each of these with the red going to the + side each speaker and the black to the -, which I believe is series wiring.
My hunch is to get parallel I would need to run a jumper from the + terminals of each speaker and a jumper from the - terminals of each.

Re: 2X12 Speaker Wiring
Nope. Two 16 ohm speakers can be wired in parallel for 8 ohms total load, or wired in series for 32 ohms total load. You need four speakers to do series-parallel wiring that can provide 16 ohms total load.
So you're stuck with 8 ohms (two 16's in parallel, diagram below), and I sure hope you have an attenuator.

Or you'll need 8 ohm speakers wired in series to 16 ohms.

Re: 2X12 Speaker Wiring
Thanks, I had it right the first time as per your diagram. I have two GT12-75's out of my other cab that are in there so I am good up to 150 Watts. As long as I am not maxing the amp out (which I won't be doing until I get two 8 ohms in series and an attentuator on it) I should be fine.
I have a 16 Ohm attenuator, but since I'm running the cab at 8 ohms I'm not using it right now, just the Lar/Mar MV.
I do have a question for when I purchase new speakers. I really want something in the cab that gets a greenback sound. Obviously, I can't put greenbacks in the cab because I'll be attenuating pretty hard all the time trying to protect those speakers.
What would you recommend to get a greenback sound either in a scumback or celestion that will be safe to run with a 100 watt metro with a power attenuator?
Would a G12-65 be the best choice, since that speaker is supposed to be a higher wattage greenback?
Thanks.

Re: 2X12 Speaker Wiring
I use two Scumback M75 LHDC 100 watt speakers in my Avatar 212 cab. Has a G12-65 tone with a little G12M Greenback thrown in IMO. Sounds great clean or dirty. This would give you a 200 watt rating and because of the 97dB sensitivity will keep the perceived volume down a bit when compared to the G12T75 or V30's which are more efficient speakers. Call Jim at Scumback and he'll get you on track with the tone you're after.
