Well, that makes at least THREE of us here! (Oh, and MacG!)

The Oxblood I think is something special. I was never keen on the JB Strats becasue I don't think that there is anything REALLY special about them except "JB" on the headstock. Even Beck says so. We all know he could make a cigar box with strings sound great! But...if you NEED one for your collection, well.....but get the Oxblood first!

Great, remember it has a fairly thick neck and the BB's 1&2's aren't to everyones taste, some love them. others want to change them out.
It is a great guitar though and they hold their value well.
THe first issue JB Strat's with the 'Louisville Slugger' neck and the Wilkinson roller nut, are the ones to seek out, imho.

Pretty good article on JB in the new Guitar Player. The writer admits to being a JB fanatic and gives the man the props that he JB doesn't deservedly get around here :?

Haven't tried the tabs but the guy actually tries to notate some of the shit JB pulls off. This ought to be interesting...

I just think people don't know what to do with Jeff Beck as you cannot categorize him like other players, he transcends genres and decades.
I consider him a modern day Les Paul or Wes Montgomery, or Cliff Gallup.
Jeff invents his own notes and is always for the song and melody, that he isn't a songwriter, so what..perfection isn't even perfect, he has contributed more than anyone of his era, and he is into hot rods and is generally way cool and his own man.. what we all aspire to be 8) !
Enough love for you, Mike :) !

I didn't know he was in the new GP - thanks Chief, I'll have to run out and get it!
"I just think people don't know what to do with Jeff Beck as you cannot categorize him like other players, he transcends genres and decades." That's so true Yng! I think for the people that do "get" Beck, they "get it" right away, the first time they hear him. It's like he speaks to the individual on a very intimate level and people either immediately respond to it, or it goes over their heads. There are VERY few guitarists that do that imo, in fact most of them just sound like they are playing to themselves and not really trying to communicate to the listener at all, other than to say "I think this set of licks (guitar solo) sound cool in this song".

I never know what the fuck Jeff is going to do when he plays - he's absolutely unpredictable. That is so "human" to me and therefore REAL - and "real" never goes out of style. I think that is why he continues to transcend genres as you said.
Just my thoughts...
Fuck it.

Speaking of "Jeff Beck" strats, I liked the white 3 bolt one with the rosewood board. He really broke ground with that guitar. It sorta reminded me of the white strat Hendrix used right before he went to the maple boards.

I have a photo of Jeff, as well as that '77 live album, where it looks as though he stripped that strat down to bare alder, and the bottom horn of the pick guard had been broken.

I wonder if Jeff still owns this strat ? It would be cool if he did.

And where he really shines at that is in the slow, ballad type stuff...

There was a MIJ version of that Strat, an exact replica for sale recently.
Gotta love the Japanese, if not for them, a lot of the music and rock acts we like, wouldn't be perpetuated :D .

That's great stuff, Dave! they even have a TeleGib in there. And the Strat with the broken pickguard? I would never in a millon years think someone would dupe that! Leave it to Japanese, they can put us to shame at times in the their love for (good!) Rock and Roll!

Yeah your right chief, that strat was on the back of that Beck,Bogart and Appice album. I liked it better before he stripped it (must of been after the 'Wired' album)

Hey dave, I bet the Japs even got the 'round lam' fingerboard right with that too. The 70's reissues here have a 'slab' board  .

I like 'Diamond dust' for those reasons mentioned previously. That is unequivicably awesome stuff. I think that was the Paul or that hb'er Tele ?

I like 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat' off of 'Wired'. That had some unique tones. Wasnt that the strat ?

I'll have to go check that LP cover. I seem to think it was on the back of the Live w/ Jan Hammer LP though....

Anyway, JB used that Strat back in the JB group with Cozy so it would be from before Wired.

Speaking of BBA, did you ever hear the Live in Japan LP?? Smokin shit!

Hey Chief, I was thinking that white strat IS the bare one. Like say he got that Strat in say late 70 or 71 (first of the 3 bolt 'bullet' strats) and finally stripped it after that cover photo on 'Wired". Your right, that is the bare 'broken pick-guard one on the live album from '77. I have a cool picture of Jeff playing it (when it was white) with a 'Star Trek' shirt on.

I havent heard that live album, but I'm gonna be on the lookout for it now. I'll try finding vinyl first, then resort to cd if I cant find it.

FYI, the live BBA was not released in the US. It was an import only.
