Anyone here fix there own speaker with cone rub?

Post by gnugear » Tue Aug 03, 2004 5:14 pm

I've got a Greenback RI that has cone rub. It's not worth the money to ship to and from and ALSO pay the repair fee ... but I just can't get myself to toss the speaker!!

Anyone know of an easy cure?

Gnu, send it to Weber. It's around $40 for a recone and it will sound better than it did new.

Or sell it our new classified section.

When Weber recones do they still sound like the same speaker?

I have a blown V30 that I am thinking about reconing.

dosmun,

Any speaker will sound a little stiffer after a recone, until the cone breaks in. Weber are good people. Just tell them you want them to use original parts and they'll come back stock.

I wasn't aware that they used original Celestion parts. I nquired a while back and it sounded likethey used their own stuff. I will have to check more into this.

From the Weber site :
We match the original parts as close as possible or recone to the customers specifications. We do not source official factory recone kits. If those are required, they must be supplied by the customer.
So I was wrong. They don't use factory parts. You'll have to go elsewhere if originality is important.

Sorry
