Will do, Jerry. I wish I was able to move this along faster, but you know how it is...

Ill buy that board back off you too since you didnt need it. I can use the vactrols for something else. My buddy has a PCB program we are going to get that switching system down really small on a board. He is perfecting it for me right now.
I'll prolly just keep the switching board for the vactrols... I'm using at least one per amp...

Made some more progress here. Wired up the PT, Mains, Standby, filter caps, etc. You can see where I'm showing wires going under the board because they change color when they hit it. Not perfect, but looks pretty good. There may be some mistakes as I didn't double check everything, so bonus to anyone who points 'em out. Now on to the front panel controls, cap under the board and the midi din for the footswitch. Then I'll do the extra board and 6V AC PT for the relay power... Once that is done - double check everything, clean up wires a bit, fix the mistakes on my schem and get on with the build... Anyway... here is the latest (image is too big, so just click the link below):

I'm trying out TurboCAD, is there some place that you'd recommend for finding libraries/symbols??

Got 'em here:

Amplates.com

Great guy and does a nice job on design. He is a bit expensive - for a one off, ok - too expensive to me for production...

Latest Progress - Major milestone completed!

Ok guys! I've now finished my full layout and updated my schematics to reflect the actual design. I've posted several layers of my layout for people to really see what is going on. You can now see on the board wiring which wires go above and which are below the board (you can see this best on the second diagram. If a wire is under the turret, it goes under the board.) With the full layout with all the layers, it is hard to see some things. I'm sure I'll get some feedback from folks and will continue to update these and keep them current, but this is enough theory at this point. I've done enough to convince myself I'm on the right track - its time to get back to building.( I've just put links to everything because the images are too big to post on this site. Click 'em to view the images.)

Here are the updated schematics:

Effects Loop Schematic
Power Section Schematic
Foot Switch Schematic

Here are the layout diagrams:

This is the full layout

And here is an actual size board template:

Now it is on to actually getting back to building the amp! While I'm sure there will be updates, this is enough that I can get started. First I'm going to drill and stake my board and test out my relay mounting technique and if that is all good, I'll then go back to wiring/soldering the power section. I'm psyched!

It looks Killer. Are you going to sale chassis and face plates for this amp project?

My plan is to offer complete amps for sale that will include a component "tweak" kit people can use to mod for different tones. I don't plan to sell kits of any kind, however, I'll provide all my schematics, layout drawings, BOM, complete instructions w/photos, etc. so anyone who wants to can build this for personal use/non-commercial purposes. People will need to cut their own chassis and have faceplates/backplates done themselves just like I did... or you can buy a complete working amp from me and tweak to your heart's content...

No problem! Happy to provide them. As you can see on some of the other pages, I've already cut the chassis, had faceplates made, assembled and wired part of the amp. Now that I have complete layouts I'll get back to soldering and posting as many updates with photos as I can... Stay tuned! :)

OK, so another update. Here's what I've been doing...

DC Heater circuit:

So, I drilled out my chassis for a 250 Ohm, 4W pot and another little pre-made board. I'm using a .1 uF cap that my friend Olaf sent me that fits perfectly in this tight spot. Here;s a pic:

Image

Will solder this up when I get some good bus wire for the heaters...

Relay power board construction:

I took some red swirl board material I ordered from Watts Tube Amps and measure what I needed. The boards I got were 2" wide and I needed 1 3/4", so I measured and then used a razor cutter to due the initial cut with a straight edge. I then used a really small mitre saw to cut the board. I then printed out a board template and taped it to my cut board. You can kinda see what I did here at the top right of the paper attached to the board. My flash took away most of the detail, but you can see a couple of screw and turret holes.:

Image

I then used a center punch to carefully mark the hole spots on the template into the board and then drilled it out with my press. I then took some cool turrets that Olaf sent me (he sent me the correct bit as well) and hammered them in - believe me - they are not going anywhere. I then assembled the components and tested out the standoffs I'll be using. Here is what the relay power board looks like now:

I haven't soldered anything because first I ned to drill out my chassis for the board as well as the bridge rectifier and 7806 voltage rectifier that are part of the circuit. These will be screwed into the board and I just find it easier to get everything situated, all wires connected and then solder everything together. That'll be the next step...

Modded the grounding scheme for the loop after a nice e-chat with my amp builder friend, Olaf:
