60W isn't overkill if using a very small good quality tip, but really, it is way over the top.
I either use an Antex temperature controlled station, or a little standalone 50W Antex with smaller tips to keep the temperature down, and I work fast.

A 25-30 w iron is all you need. most imoprtant to use a free oxide tip each time so use the sponge for each solder point. also is important to not overheat the tip. You can use a diode shunted with a switch to keep you iron in stand-by half power mode without burn or overheat the tip.
