I just finished a vibro champ build. Did a stupid thing at the end. I dead shorted the power leads to the 120 on the PT. It had a sound coming out of the speaker for about 10 seconds then nothing. I figured out what I did and changed the leads then replaced the fuse. Now when I turn it on only the 6v6 and the 2 12ax7's light up. The rectifier doesn't light at all. Do you think I hosed the tranny or could I have blown the 5y3? The 6.3 to the on light and the heaters seems to be fine. Not sure if it jacked the 5 volt windings or not. Is there an easy way to tell?

First check the continuity with your volt meter on the B+ secondaries and the 5 volts for the rectifier. If it's OK, pull out all tubes and fire it up. Check the voltages on the secondaries. If they are normal, then you can "plug in" your tubes. If you don't have 5 volts for the rectifier, but there is a HT, you can use just silicon diodes for the bridge rectifier.

Re: HELP...did I really do that?
Thanks, Haze 13. I took the tubes out and measured the heaters on the pilot and they were 3.5 each. Then I measured the high voltage and they were 354 and 355 on 4 and 6 pins then I measured the 5 volt on pins 2 and 8 and got 5.6 on 2 and 0 on 8. That leaves me to believe that the winding is open. I already ordered my new pt. Live and learn.

Measure across pins 2 and 8 you get approx 5v on the rectifier heaters
