Its not too practical for me and I would kinda like to build a 2204, but I have a 2204.
A 68 plexi sounds very intriguing.
I think I would want a slightly lower B+ from the power transformer.
around 450v?
I heard Geroge M Metro_Friedman and liked the regular mode a bit more than the variaced. but could definitely go a tad lower.
I am also thinking of maybe changing the power transformer in my 2204 from 395v to a 440v.
I just love the soldering! lol
Would make it out of new parts. dont need NOS.
Mallory 150s. F&T Xicons. seem fine to me.
Would spend a good amount of money on the Transformers though.
I just might have to get the chassis and basic parts to start.
im itchin....
Im so itching to build a Plexi

The only problem I have with another 50watter is getting more headroom.
from my limited messing around with my amp I have the issue of getting enough headroom and warmth at the same time.
Im trying to find the sweet spot.
I would like to experiment with PT
I dont suppose there is a way to UP the B+ in my power amp. I already did the preamp and it gets too harsh.
I think maybe 440v would be the sweet spot for this
maybe I should invest in a Variac to see where "my" sweet spot in an amp would be?
hmmmm........
does that seem like the best way to do what I am looking for?
Get a PT with a relatively high ( 475v) B+ and get a variac to lower to taste?
cheers!
Still I want to build my own and have a turret board for me to freely mess with more values and combinations.

470 for an upper tap, and 430 for the lower is what I like. I actuall prefer the sound of the higher tap too. 475 is good too.

you know man, 395 might have been good for EVH but he was playing with that thing full throttle and I just dont. so for lower volume higher B+ sounds better to me. lower gets a tad mushy mush
i just might get the variac instead though to experiment. then see what i like for a high and low.
but it so depends on how you have the amp setup.

you should just build it! I myself like building amps for myself that have as many NOS parts as possible. Kinda like building a "new" vintage Marshall...actually way more original then anything Marshall reissued. Mark
