Ground hum, inputs?

Post by rgorke » Wed Sep 25, 2013 4:30 pm

I keep getting a ground hum from ALL my guitars. When I take my hands off the strings or bridge I get hum and then goes away when I touch it. Could this be caused by a grounding problem with my inputs?

I have a 68 Plexi clone.

Check your chassis ground on the mains input.

I poked around with chop stick. The ground at the mains seems good to go. I have, in the past, done some futzing at the inputs and may not have them soldered to ground as good as they should be....cold solder joints, maybe.

When I touch the chassis the buzz goes away as well.

Also tested with different amp, guitar, etc.
