Hi folks,
with my 69 sl build i would also want to experiment with different specs and some mods. One of the things that i might be interested is trying out the Drake OT (as i don't want to build yet another amp to try out 67 10 000 series specs) and hence i'm wondering if the 132 Drake OT will fit on the 69 style chassis?
Thank yo uvery much and kind regards,
VintageCharlie
Drake 132 OT on a 69 chassis (interchangeable with C1998)?

You will have to drill new mounting hols for the 132, the existing grommet holes will be tight but should work.

Would all of the mounting holes have to be redrilled, or could either of the 2 be used with only 2 extra holes needed?

I guess it depends on the particular 132 ot, but at least two holes need drilling and a third just widened a bit. You can also adjust the holes in the ot mount itself for the third screw. Half my 68 builds have the 132, some from mercury magnetics and some from Chris. I think the MM ot's are a bit too modern sounding which can be a good thing to some, but a slight departure from a classic Marshall tone. Think I'll convert one to a black flag or 10,000 series. What are you going for Karlis with this build?

Re: Drake 132 OT on a 69 chassis (interchangeable with C1998
I'm actually after a stock 69 SL (probably switchable to most SB specs and with PPIMV), but i know that i will always be asking myself "how would a 67 with Drake OT be different from a 45/100 and a 69, as it sits in the middle of the plexi era Marshall model spectrum and might be great in getting a wide palette of the classic tones. As i really do not want to build a 3rd 100w Marshall, it would be great to test out, how a 67 spec with Drake OT would sound, just to know. But for that i might be ok without really mounting the OT down (i could mount it if i decide that i prefer it with the Drake).

Re: Drake 132 OT on a 69 chassis (interchangeable with C1998
As you know Karlis I have two 68SLs with laydown PTs and cap board. Both of theses chassis are identical and have dual dset ups to take either the Drake -132 and Dagnall C1998. Both are punched for a 132 but drilled for the C1998.
The spacing on a 69 might be a bit tighter and you might need to move the choke across a little?
I also have the amps you refer too! Although my 67 has a -119 Drake with El34s.
Funnily enough I gave them all a run the other day (keep the caps up to scratch!) as my 50watters have been getting all the lurve (and gigs) recently.
As you would expect the 68 is the rockiest, the 45/100 blusiest and needs to be cranked to get the goods (will do most things with a pedal!) and the 67 is the sweetest crossing both territories with mainly guitar knob control, sure to really scream a pedal helps. The AFD type is squealing pinched harmonics heavy riffing beast
.
I would build both

Re: Drake 132 OT on a 69 chassis (interchangeable with C1998
Damit, Neil, this seems like the standard answer to the ever so silly question about differences between amps. But it's true - only when you can really try out yourself, you can really tell what you prefer - no amount of clips and shootouts is going to help there. Might end up building a 67 SL with Drake 132 too
I find the 67 so interesting because, judging from clips, it is very close to a 45/100 and i'm tempted by the idea of adding switchable 68 spec SL circuit mods to that. Where it seems to be noticeably different from the 45/100 is that the 67 with Drakes has quite a bit more mids (or less of high and low end). Is this observation true? That would be a hell of a versatile Marshall. From clean to really mean, all at the turn of the volume knob on the guitar. The 45/100 sounds so spooky good that i do not want to mess with the stock spec.
