I just competed my first ever amp build; a 5f2a Tweed Princeton clone, mostly sourced from Mojo. The amp sounds fantastic and was initially a complete success. However, about a week after competed, I started having input jack issues. This seems like a real basic problem but this is my first build and my first ever (somewhat) large electronic project; a complete newbie.
Now when I plug into input 2, the input shorts out with the slightest touch of the input cable; as evidenced by the following YouTube video. Input 1 works until I press sideways on the input cable and then a similar short occurs. As far as I can tell, all my solder points look good and there is no intrusive wiring that may cause a short. The input jacks are clear when the cable is plugged in and the short is not happening from the input touch anything it should not.
Like I said, I know this problem is rudimentary, but I'm looking for some guidance to troubleshoot. Also, I'm totally new to the forum and building, so any advice as to proper posting and regarding any additional info I should provide would be welcome.
Thanks in advance, Brian.

Re: 5F2A First Time Builder Help
From the clip it sounds like a grounding issue or a cable issue. Check both your cable and your ground connection.

2cnd tremblay....
First off, I'd check that input cable.
Second, I'd check how you grounded those input jacks. (isolated? or a loose chassis connection?) Are all 4 input ground tied together? Reflow the solders, the signal ones, too. Make sure you TIGHTEN the jacks to the chassis if they're not isolated(looked metal to metal)- use a wrench or socket.. Just push the chassis and see if it happens. Don't rule out a bad batch of input jacks, but I suspect a basic input prob.
You can get away with non-isolated on this one, but you may not on higher gain builds.
You've already isolated your problem. Something is loose. RIGHT there..
