used 68k pihers, 100k iskras and some other rarities.

Post by VintageCharlie » Tue Mar 16, 2010 3:28 am

Dear forum members,

i have the chance to score 4x 68k 1/2w pihers, 2x 100k 1/2w Iskras, 56k 1/2w iskra, 15k 1/2w Iskra, 10k 1/2w Iskra. They all have shortened leads and i just asked the seller to send me a picture where i can get an idea how long they actually are (i also sent him a picture of a JTM preamp so he could tell me if it fits). I intend to use them for the places on the board that require a quite short lead (comes almost naturally with most of these values anyway).
Seller gives no warranty and the parts are sold as is, but he says all tested and are fine. Because of shipping and taxes this whole fun would cost me 120$!!! - and those parts are not new. What do you say? shall i get those or let this one pass? (and i thought the ebay lot with the pihers and iskras, had a crazy high price)

Thanks!

VintageCharlie

I say: baaaah...forget it. Ridiculous price. Is this the next item to hoard and gouge people over?

How about the pihers - did you actually hear a change when you used them in your amp(s) Roe?

The prices themselves are fairly ok - the pihers go for 6$ each, with shipping taxes its ~60$ for the four. One of the four seems to have too short leads though, so there are actually 3 that i could use.

pihers sound a tad more like CCs. in my 67 el34 amp I prefer a combo of AB CCs and pihers. I like CCs for the 270k (esp. bright ch) and the 56k slope resistor. also I use CCs for NFB (27k) and the 820s on v1 and v2 as well as for both the 100Ks at v2. I do not recommend a .5 w on v2 since one of these 100ks has a voltage drop exceeding 200v, meaning that you are running the .5w resistor very hard. I use a 1w so that it shouldn't fail
