Aluminum standoffs on circuit board mounting bolts? Brass ok

Post by Bluesgeetar » Sat Jul 12, 2008 12:29 am

George uses aluminum tubing for his board mounting bolts for the standoffs at 1/2". See store link:

Is it ok to brass tubing for the stand offs? Any reason why George uses aluminum? Can you use other metals such as brass, steel, bronz, etc. But mainly brass? :?

Can't see how it would make any difference. Not part of the grounding scheme or the circuit.

That is what I thought. I was racking my brain trying to figure out if the bolts and standoffs had anything to do with the grounding or circuit. I wish George would chime in and let us know why he uses aluminum and not brass or something else. I found a place online that sells brass tubing in the exact dimensions as the standoffs that George uses and they will cut it to 1/2" for you. They are dirt cheap too. I'd like to make my own board mounting bolt sets as I just can see paying $6.00 for only 6 of those little guys.

Cool place. THey sell cold rolled steel bar. Could probably buy your own stock and bypass Callaham and hook your strat up if you had the tools. I think they will cut the bar to your exact dimensions. Then it is up to you and your drill press to finish it if and have a new strat block. You could also try aluminum and brass block I think.

:D

Cool stuff. Personally I prefer a little bit longer than the ones that George sells, and have recently been ripping all sorts of components to bits to find suitable bits to rob, This could save me a lot of bother.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!
