It's a stellar performance to let a board look like that. It not only is beautiful, but it's also how they made it back in the days. Looks teriffic!
Looks like drilling will be a lot easier when you've got a good template. I was thinking about one made out of rust free steel, that's pretty hard, so it will last for years without wearing out. I know a couple of companies with a CNC machine. I'm curious what the price would be for a template...
Now the question: what are the sizes of the board for JTM45/50's. Somewhere I read that the space between the holes measured from centre to centre is 1 centimeter (0.4"), is that correct?
Thanks for the help!

That is what I have. I got a local engraver with a cnc machine to make me a 1/4" plexiglass template with 1cm square holes... made a board last night and it worked like a charm... if you tape the template over the new board... and hold it loosly... the drill bit on the drill press will "grab" the hole and align it perfectly on it's own... Law of the least resistance...
Why do we love the look of perf board so much... I know my wife doesn't understand...

Are there women then that understand why we like building amps? Do they know why we like driving to fast? Or why we like drinking beer with our friends?
Oeps, here I go again...
Back to the topic. I just took some measurements of the board in my JTM45. Looks like the turrets are placed 9 mm out of each other. Now it's not really a problem that the turrets are placed differently, but when using George's chassis, the studs that hold the board in place will line out different too. How is that with the board you made? Does it line out corectly?

A few years back I purchased enough of the phenolic boards to do every style Marshall built. The phenolic boards are the hardest of the components to to get for the period correctness. But Marshall now has boards that are cosmetically identical to their early boards but of different material. Find out where they get their boards and that would remedy the need for phenolic. Nothing like a dark brown perf board, the red stuff just don't cut it for that vintage look.

I remember a comment from Angus Young when he was asked about the prerequisite color for his SG's..."They can be any color as long as it's brown."
I believe the same applies for the boards. There's just something about a brown board that speaks to the vintage correctness and cosmetic appeal of a build.
I don't believe anyone who's building these amps with any level of finesse in build quality will want to use anything but Garolite, Paxolin, or Phenolic for materials.
There should be as much attention given to materials selection as is possible. If we ever see a perfect build (I mean absolutely PERFECT), we'll see a beautiful brown board peppered with NOS components superbly soldered to split turrets.
Now THAT turns my crank!!

I've got some sheets of brown phenolic I purchased that is wider than the 66 plexi power board, that way I can make any of the plexi boards by just down sizing from there. The last sheets I purchased are 16th inch thick and work good for the Fender boards.
May the good Lord take a liking to you!
