Metro amp overhaul for non working Weber 6m45 kits?

Post by Kapo_Polenton » Sat Mar 31, 2007 12:17 pm

Hey everybody, I've ordered parts from Metro amps up here in Canada and its always the fastest shipping so I have to above all fire a "props" out there for great service first and foremost... but now on to business.

This may seem like a strange request, but is there a section on this forum for people such as myself that bought a Weber 6m45p kit (not knowing what to expect) and have had to struggle through getting everything to fit into this subpar kit only to find after extensive troubleshooting that voltages are too low, the fuse blows, and distorted low volume tone barks out of the speaker instead of anything close to resembling plexi tone? In other words, are there any areas with tips for the "metro overhaul guide to making a 6m45p work?" I mean this kit is poorly designed and at this point i could careless if i get banned from his forum or my post dissapears. As the English say, its total "bollocks" to have a standup cap board that barely fits in the chassis and a circuit board that is far too wide to also fit. Maybe amp building wasn't for me and in hindsight i could have wired somethings neater (twisted more) , but the thing is built and doesn't work and i have seen vintage amps wired looking even messier, so I would hate to think i wasted my time on it...

Anyway I thought i would throw it out there in the hopes that someone else had experienced the same thing. I received a note from one of the techs that used to work there and he pretty much told me that the design is flawed and its often a case of "works or doesn't". He sugested i replace the one cap can and all the caps on that standup board for that matter. But while i am at it, i just got to thinking how i could do this as being "creative" in this area is usually reserved for people who know more about design rather than those that can just solder... great forum here though. I've been enjoying the reading.

I had the same experience about 3 or 4 years ago. Nothing fit in the chassis the way it should have. I kept what was worth keeping and did the rest myself. That is , until I found metro. :)

Can you let me know what you kept and what you ditched component wise and design wise? I'll understand if it is too much to recollect or be bothered listing..

thanks

I've left the Weber trannies without trouble thus far, but I like replacing the jacks, switches and sometimes the tube sockets. And I make up a turret board, and load it with quality caps instead of the fiber board.
