Never saw this one, tripped over it. Just amazes me to see Ed's riffs slowed down. Crazy great stuff. Can't figure out how to embed so:

I have Vol. 1 on VHS, but I didn't know there was a Vol. 2. Thanks for posting!

Always loved the sound of his Langner modded Marshall. Anybody got any info on that? schematic or good gut shots?

Yep, I have that laying around somewhere, gimme a bit to find it. I've also got Curt Mitchell's full song Van Halen video before it got yanked (very few of them sold) where he goes into depth about how he got his sound and details how stuff like how to do the dive at the end of the eruption solo (done with a delay pedal), etc. Good stuff.

He gets a lot of things wrong...like every other transcriber out there. His "Eruption" fingerings are way off, especially in the fast picking section at the fifth position just preceding the tapping. And he got the whole fast parts of the "Atomic Punk" riffs wrong...it wasn't done with a delay, just with his hand.

But years ago I didn't realize that the dive at the end of "Eruption" was a delay trick that you could do on almost any delay. To do it correctly you really need to do it as Eddie did it with the modded Univox EC-80 A (as msbonta proved), but you can do the actual oscillation and pitch dive with just about any delay.

So I did learn something from him. But it is par for the course with Eddie instructional videos and official transcriptions...you have to go through so many mistakes and completely wrong transcriptions, but you can learn something (even if it is learning what NOT to do) if you have the patience.

Allen, not being facetious here, you should consider producing a DVD instructional series of VH lessons.

If anyone out there has the knowledge to do it right, it would be you! :champ:
Nah...it would be Bill (wjamflan). He's the guy that has really figured out the difficult things. But I will do anything I can to help get Bill's insights out in the world somehow. He is the one player and transcriptionist that I feel has truly understood Eddie's style over and above anyone who has worked on the official TAB books and guitar magazine transcriptions.

I measure my own playing by what I was doing before Bill taught me and after Bill taught me. And it continues through this very day.

I don't think that's it. I have the one where he describes his setup from guitar/amp all the way to the mixing board and describes all the effects. He teaches eruption, you really got me, ain't talking bout love, hot for teacher and panama from start to finish, not just riffs.

The Marshall he uses is sounds like it has a master and PPIMV installed from his description. That amp is the ballsiest thing I've ever heard. It's an early 70's 100 watt bass version of the 1959 from what I remember.

I recorded it to DVD from a VHS tape many years ago- I'll try and dig it up.

The amp he is playing in this DVD was a prototype developed for him, and it was eventually developed into the Bray 4550... which is a killer amp circuit.

Curt refers to it as the "455" i the video, and he talks about it briefly.
Wow, that's cool! I had no idea about Bray and the amp Curt was using here. Very interesting...

Well, there's more to the story than that.

Back when Curt's forum was up and running, I was a member there. Curt was one of the coolest people, humble, would answer questions from anyone.

From what I recall (this was a long time ago) there was some sort of falling out regarding the amp design/marketing. Don't remember if it was a business issue, money, or some personal disagreement... but long story short - Curt's association with the project ended.

Nevertheless, the amp design continued and was slightly renamed.
Wow!

Hmm...very interesting. I wonder how Bray comes into the picture.

Curt's tone is Ok to me, but a lot more in the Demartini/Lynch/...etc. heavy metal sounds. Not quite like any of the Van Halen sounds. I think the Bray 4550 sounds great and the Friedman BE-100 sounds great...I can hear the Curt Mitchell amp being akin to those.

So are we guessing that Bray was one of these builders?
