But I talked to lynn again, and im gonna have to send you guys some pics when I get them because this time I wont be able to go and see him, hes gonna have to ship them to me but hes gonna this time making me 2 necks, one of the exact specs of the 97 franky or the replacement Birdseye neck and hes also going to make me one that is identical to the cbs style one ed had on the vh1! lol so when I get them im gonna put some pics up for you guys to see them and be able to see the heel and everything and I will be glad to give measurements off them both but see ya guys later and have fun!

Too bad we couldn't get a number of guys together. A run of those CBS type necks would be cool.

I don't get it...maybe I missed something here. Is Ellsworth making a clone of the Frankenstein? If so, how would he be able to replicate it any better than Musikraft or Divebomb? They have been making extremely accurate clones of the first album cover Frankenstein neck and the Asuza bodies for years now. What am I missing?

Re: just talked to lynn again...guess what
no he is not makeing a clone of it, he is just making me clones of the two necks and also concluding he wouldn't be able to because of the body and also that divebomb and all of them are not that close either.By the way those azusa bodys are way off, I have actual photographic evidence from tom anderson that it is in fact not a boogie bodie and indeed the rumors are true it is just a plain charvel body which I by the way talked to wayne a while ago and was able to contact Dave scecter.Dave made wayne copys of his templates for Wayne back in the day and that's what he used for the Franky body a pair of old 70s scecter templates, secondlyyyyyyy I was able to contact a friend that dave gave me the name of who only makes basses and dave gave him those old scecter templates like 5 years ago.funny though he gladly sent me some copy's of those original templates.
Wayne told me who supplied him in the 70s which is who also helped supply fender I have just been bothering the crap out of them and every time hard ash lumber comes through I have them send me pics which that what the body is hard ash!!!! not swamp to get one that has grain close to the original with my eye.
p.s. to you guys cloning the franky it was in facts sealed and the grain was filled just not very good, that's why there is that sweat stain on the back of the contour, that streak rounding the contour is were sealer was rubbed down to the wood and if you look at the spots on the front were the black paint was rubbed off like near the quarter you will see sweat stains like streaks there also, which is also why ed stopped playing the Franky his sweat has completely ruined the neck pocket in the franky, in the pics tom sent me I can see in the pocket at one point in time there is a huge chunk of wood between the neck pocket and the single coil pickup route with the mighty mite was completely ripped off and repaired, that's how soft the wood has gotten from the sweat! like basswood that has been soaked in water repeatedly
I uploaded two pics to show what im talking about and by the way another fact about the Franky is the original Schwinn paint that he painted it with was of course just regular black and white but the red he used was Schwinn desoto red, but now the Franky looks completely orange from all of the smoke sticking to the the finish, but I figured I would give you guys some of my knowledge but thanks and when I get the necks if you guys need any measurements just ask!!!

Cool, The headstock shape of the NECK is just as important as the BODY shape imo. I love the take Lynn used on the CBS style headstock. I guess his template was a tad 'off' compared to Fender on that too (headstock).
Yes indeed, a headstock template would be GREAT (though the one Strat78 has is pretty darn close).

If I remember correctly, didnt Chip Ellis say in one of the interveiws that you could still see the Boogie Body stamp on the original? I could be wrong.

From this.

I wrote both EVH articles and did the interviews with Ed, Matt Bruck and Chip Ellis. Unfortunately, my original submitted article on the EVH Replica got hacked to bits by Fender's lawyers. This discrepancy would not have occurred if the lawyers hadn't intervened (they even wanted us to remove well-known details such as the pickup being a Gibson PAF and the body and neck being made by Boogie Bodies - which were copies of original Fender designs to begin with!). Also, the video was filmed long before I did my interview with Ed (Ed is commenting about the prototype in the video).
Here is how my Q&A with Chip Ellis originally read:
Guitar World: After you got the initial work order, how did you begin work on the replica guitar?
Chip Ellis: I made the first prototype using just photographs for reference. Eddie’s relationship with Fender was just getting started, and nobody wanted to ask him if they could hold onto his original guitar for any length of time. We brought it into the shop once to take it apart and make patterns from the body, but we made sure to put it back together and give it right back to him. When Ed and I started working together, he trusted my judgment with everything and he had no problems with letting me hang onto the guitar for a while. We still have the original guitar in our possession right now. We take it back from him as we need it, and Ed is super cool about that. He has catered to our every need.
GW: Ed has done a lot to that guitar over the years, and he’s changed the neck several times. What kind of neck is on it now?
Ellis: The neck that’s currently on the guitar is actually the neck it started with. That was really cool. The original guitar was not a Fender. It was made from aftermarket parts— a Boogie Bodies body made by Wayne Charvel and a Boogie Bodies neck. The neck heel and the neck pocket are still stamped with the Boogie Bodies logo. We sat down with Ed and heard his stories about how the guitar came about, which was filmed for a DVD.
Once the project got the green light, Ed let Chip Ellis hang onto his "Frankenstein/Baby" several times for extended periods while Ellis duplicated details. Ed also confirmed this in the interview I did with him (I spoke with Chip before I interviewed Ed).
FWIW, the "brown sound" feature was 100 percent approved by Ed and Matt Bruck before it went to print. I did a lot of back and forth with Ed to make sure that the details were accurate - Ed, Matt and I agreed that it was time once and for all for telling the complete, definitive story about this topic (especially in light of all the false info floating around on the internet). While most of the details are common knowledge, some "gray area" details that Ed confirmed include the type of speakers in his Marshall cabs, that he didn't use a power amp in his rig on the first album (many speculated that he did), and his Echoplex setting. I also went to great effort to reach Donn Landee to confirm specifics about the studio setup and engineering techniques, and I tracked down a past employee at Sunset Sound to confirm the exact console that was in the studio in '77 when the album was recorded (lots of conflicting info about this floating around on the web - now it's confirmed).

That is a cool post from Chris Gill. Where is it from?
Also, if there is confirmation about what speakers are in Ed's old marshall cabs, what is the confirmed kind? Blackbacks, pre-rola Greenbacks, mid-70's greenbacks?...

I think its from the Guitar World Forums. It reads as though Wayne made the Boogie Bodies, but I think he was selling them through Charvel. Later Boogie's didn't look the same either.mapat wrote:That is a cool post from Chris Gill. Where is it from?

Re: just talked to lynn again...guess what
Craig Parker Adams recorded a few songs with one of Ed's old cabs. It had blackbacks with 1777 cones. I think Dave Friedman confirmed that as well.

Ok, great, thanks! I was not aware of the speaker confirmation.
