I am trying to learn China Town right now. Rhythm isn't too bad. That beginning tapping part is a SOB. Anyone else try it yet?

I am so embarrassed trying to learn these songs. I have not learned a cover tune in so long its almost like I forgot how to use my ears. Unreal! I don't even remember friggin music theory. I just have the scales memorized! I should have never let myself go like this!

I am the apposite; I haven't tried to learn a cover tune in a long time. I always to because I could never make them sound right! But last week, my band wanted to learn Sweat Child o Mine; I learned the whole thing in about 15 minutes... This was a new record for me as it usually take me hours to figure out easy parts!!!

How do I do that? Is there a program I can download that does that? I have always wanted to try that! I usually have to put on a cd and listen to it a thousand times to get the riff in my head. I know I know.. I have done it the hard way! LOL

A tune like ChinaTown can overwhelm the ears when trying to learn. Its so fast its hard to pick things out!

This is really wierd for me. None of the songs sound like VH or these songs are that are from 75-76 do not have Templeman producer factor? These songs sound forced to me. I said to me ok. Dont flip out.

China Town is a new song.

I think the guys realized that out of the mountain of new stuff they have with Roth (the 2000's failed sessions and the post-reunion tour work) none of it was really going to be "crowd pleasing". So they opted to fall back on left-over classic area material. I think it is a clever move ... for now. That said, we shouldn't be shocked when the next album comes out and it sounds more like Van Hagar with Roth singing on top.

Any pointers? Having trouble with it. Especially the tapping part. Verse is easy. Can't figure out the cords to the intro and tapping mainly. There is a wicked tapping part in the solo too!
