So, for those of you who have Floyds and have the brass block thingys, what do you think? Is there a big change in sustain as advertized? Which size do you all have? 32, 37, 42? Is it the length that increases? meaning, if I were to get a 42, do I run the risk of the block poking out the back of the guitar? I don't use a back plate, so that really isn't of much concern for me.
And for Philip, I do have a normal Fender tremolo, so I am only 50% sacreligeous.

I have a 37 and a 42. Not much difference between the 2. However, the difference from the standard cast block is indeed noticable at higher volumes. I notice that all the Erni Ball Axis come with the standard block removed and a brass replacement of the same size. If your running a floating trem, dont waste your money or your time.
The 42 is HUGE!

Thanks, mine sits squarely on the guitar and has no upward movement whatsoever. I figure if you gonna go for one of these, might as well go for the John Holmes version.

I have tried all the brass blocks on my guitar, they all seem brighter with slightly more sustain, I keep going back to the trusty Gotoh with STOCK brass block.
slightly brighter on humbuckers and really brighter on single coils, I really like the cast Iron Kramer series and steel zinc coated originals, I also have a Gotoh with a titanium block and it is just overkill! It took me 8 months to find someone to machine this and There is only a limited supply of exotic metals imported into the country.

I got a big brass block from Performance Guitars a few years ago...before other vendors started popping up. It absolutely made a difference both acoustically and through the amp. I wouldn't say it was brighter, just a bigger tone with more sustain.

I have been looking at one of these for a while. I might just have to pick one up!

Thats interesting. The new EB Axis I just bought has a stainless steel Floyd with a regular sized brass block. I looked on the side and its a Gotoh.

Get the 32. 42 is too big IMO. I had to re-angle the spring claw, otherwise the springs had a curve to them and sounded like Ed's beercan piano wire effect.
I add clear rubber tubing to the inside of my springs. Same stuff you get for fish tank bubblers in a pet store.
When you gonna do a new D.F Variplex clip Motrock.......the suspense!

So, will that L shaped 32 work? I would think that extra brass on the L shaped would be helpful?
I think I just sold my transformer... so once its gone, I am going to get the EP-Booster. I want that thing here before I record any clips!

Yup, it'll work fine. I just have the square versions I bought off ebay a few years ago. These ones are much cheaper now on this new site. I may pick up this L version myself.
The EP will blow your mind.

Oh, I know! The EP is the final key to this equation! I think the icing on the cake would be that sustain block!

Hell no! I am going to send Dave Friedman my Mojave and have it turned in ot the Brown Eye/Hairy Brown Eye Mod. I still also have to get another good 4x12 cab with some old greenbacks. Then I am going to sell the Scumback H75s that I have so I can get Scumback M75-HPs. Nope... I am not done! LOL
