I had the same problem with in ear monitors when playing live and it sounded just like he describes it, having 2 cabs in your ears. I solved it by using a condenser mic for ambience placed away from the cabs. Once I got it right, I preferred my in ears. I also was able to eq my sound of my amps from the monitor mixer.

Great solution. I'm surprised Ed or his team haven't figured this out.

Lol! I just wanted my guitar tone to sound good in me ears. When you're listening to a 4 x 12, you're listening to the room and with in ear monitors, they are practically in front off your eardrum! So when you blend both, in my case 2 57's and a condenser( I use an Octavia because they're not that expensive and you get good results)it's sounds so much better!
