Sounds awesome man!
Which tubes did you remove (1234) 1+2 ?
Would it be possible to pull 3 tubes and run it at 25 Watt?
Best Regards,
Marcel
Thanks!
Power tubes works in pairs so you have remove the 1 and 4 or 2 and 3, I removed the outer ones here.
Running only one tube isn't a very good idea

Hi Blix,
Sounds good.
I've been very tempted to get a 1960 Infinium - I love bargain gear that punches above its weight.
A few questions if you don't mind:
1. Do you intend to tweak it to try and go browner?
2. Any chance of tracing the circuit and posting a schematic, or at least letting us know which Marshall schematic it resembles?
3. Is the PPIMV a Lar/Mar or something else?
Thanks.

1. My plan is to replace the choke and output transformer.
2. Nope, not able to that.
3. No idea which type it is. I'm not using it anyway...

What difference are you hearing when using just 2 power tubes compared to all 4?

Good bit less volume, a bit softer and creamier, more "brown". At 100w it may be a tad more aggressive. I have to try and record the difference

That's what I thought too. Blew a power tube in my plexi and have been running it on 2 tubes, I like the tone more this way. Lots of advantages on doing this: you save on power tubes, wont blow 25 watt speakers and can use a 100w rated attenuator.

Thanks Blix!
After hearing those clips i bought an got one also, it's a great amp.
With only 2 tubes are you still using 16 ohm out to the 212 5150 cabinet? or have you set it on 8 ohm...

Congrats!
When running two power tubes you have to set the ohm at 8 for the 16 ohm cab.

To bump this golden oldie...
Blix's thread over at TGP basically twisted my arm and I got a 1960 Infinium, too.
I also got a Jet City Jettenuator. This setup is NUTS!
I'm going to do a good demo at some point soon. I'll mic up my old Peavey 412MS and let 'er rip.

Oh, I'm all over the place.
I've got a quad of JJ 6CA7s being delivered to me today. Hopefully I'll get them in tomorrow on Monday and give a hood impression on them compared to the stink Shuguang/Bugera EL34s.

More VH noodling
Finally got one of my cabs back home. Here using the Torpedo Reload as an attenuator at near bedroom level. Mic is a Sennheiser e906. Super Distortion from the 80's is the pickup.. And loads of reverb from Logic X

Oh and a ClinchFX EP Pre is on too.

man I love the way that open chord full strum sounds, totally not over-gained.
Interpretation?! I thought I was playing it right!
