I have a BB #2 and tried it with both A2 and A5 and it does not sound like the MCP BB at all andFunky Hunky wrote:Just to clarify about the Burstbuckers. There are 1,2 and 3's and Burstbucker Pro's. The Burstbucker Pro's are same as 1 and 2's are a set ,wax potted, the 2's are the most Ed like and similar to the Blackbelt in my opinion. A5-unmatched coils. Articulate, yet warm, fat, yet crunchy. Low note clarity, with a"voice". Not cheap retail but I see them for sale all the time very reasonable.
The MCP drives the plexi almost as good as the DSD whereas the BB #2 did not,at leat not to the extreme of the MCP BB.

So do you think it would be pretty close for the early tone?Marshall SL12301 wrote:Totally agree! I am so impressed with these i decided to keep all three of the MCP BB's and sell my duncan 78motrock wrote:

Yep, the '78' is what I 'hear' on the '78 tour (including VH2). Basically a PAF wound to the max with awg 42 wire. Depending on the particular bobbins and tech, as much as 10k can be gotten with the awg 42 wire. The '78 is around 9k, which is about 1k hotter than typical pafs. The a2 magnet is much warmer and sweeter as well (as compared to an A5). If I didnt already have a 'comparable' clone, I'd jump all over that

Long time 2nd DBB user here. Fantastic pickup. Remained King for a long time. However, I tried a MCP Nasty Nasty. Still on the fence, but it's remained in the guitar for the mean while. The 2nd DBB is my second guitar, so she's still around and get's played.

I really like the WCR Darkburst. Has anyone tried that and this? It's close to the same resistance, assymetrical wind. Don't know if they are unbalanced, and fortress the may type. I think it's a2... I'm really interested in trying this now.

Yes i have one and definitely think it is a amazing pu, it does not lack anything in a PAF, has bloom, sustain, punch and a certain "air" to its tone. Mark(ROCKSTAH) told me about this one and he was right as usual!mightymike wrote:I really like the WCR Darkburst. Has anyone tried that and this? It's close to the same resistance, assymetrical wind. Re: MCP 2nd degree black belt,VH I tone in a pickup!
It was one of the first p/u he tried when he was just starting out trying everything under the sun and making a name for himself.. I liked it so much, I bought one, mounted it in my HM strat with PEC mil spec pots and a mustard. I put a spliter switch on it, and was very surprised at it's single coil tone. Perfect for the ATBL solo, by also bad ass for SRV tone ( I shit you not), and for funk. I play Pick up the Pieces in a rock'n Vhish kind of way. I know that sounds weird, but it's fun
And that pick up is bad ass. I'm going to build a Northern Ash fat strat with a Darkburst and 2 APS2 Duncan Antiquities. That will be my new half step down guitar.
