Those look like two different guitars. Look at the black stripes on the upper horn and the squiggly stripes above the pickguard. One has more black than the other.jimi22812 wrote:Here is one of those pics...Rich_D wrote:The best pics of it are in a Guitar Player where he gives a lesson with the checkered shirt on. Looks like maybe he hit the guitar with red a 2nd time between photo 1 and photo 2?
You gotta dig the "Square Pegs" era shirt, though.

Re: Old VH pics
I stand corrected, was going on memory. Jimi, give us a shot of the red frank with hex pole pieces.
Interpretation?! I thought I was playing it right!

Hey man, I have a teenage boy and one that just turned 5, yes, I have totally lost it.jimi22812 wrote:Everybody on here is a little nuts, but you in particular, have really lost itrgorke wrote:Those look like two different guitars. ... that is 100% the same exact guitar.
The top picture has three black stripes and the bottom has two on the upper horn. Probably just more paint.

You have my sympathy.rgorke wrote: Hey man, I have a teenage boy and one that just turned 5, yes, I have totally lost it.

Negative. Look again closely, there in fact is a third stripe there, but it's underneath the red... as it always was.rgorke wrote: The top picture has three black stripes and the bottom has two on the upper horn. Probably just more paint.

Jimi, you're the authority. I believe I'm convoluting the memory of the black headstock red frank period with the white pickup and assuming white = hex. Interesting that hex pole pieces never made it to the frank even when everything else had them.
Interpretation?! I thought I was playing it right!

rgorke, I was seeing the same thing you saw. I actually had to tilt my laptop screen forward and backward to see the pattern "change" a little to where you can distinguish between the black and red in that area.
I think it's a combo of a black and white picture, some "shade" on that area in the photo, and the picture being scanned. But it DOES look like a 3rd black stripe if you don't look carefully.
But there is a 2nd pot there, no knob, for sure.

Re: Old VH pics
Same guitar, optical illusion. No change in paint.
Whether or not he used the hex p/u's in the Frank, I don't know. For sure in the Bee, but he was continually tone chasing in that guitar, because Ed always thought the Frank was a POS, even though he finally realized it was special. He thought the Bee would replace it because he loved the look of it. It never sounded right, though.

Re: Old VH pics
So, at the risk of being chastised again, here is another picture of the Frankenstein with a white pickup. The only thing I will say is this is Ed's best Brian May look.
