I really like the way that amp sounds. Would never have guessed that was a 7W amp.Cabbagebreeze wrote:here is clip of the Andy Timmons in a mahogany body guitar into a 7W amp.Cabbagebreeze wrote:Dimarzio Andy Timmons. Using it in a Mahogany body floyd guitar. Awesome. My new favourite pup.

That's certainly NOT Andy Timmons. Crap tone, just awful.

Re: kramer pacer mahogany body with marshall. which pickups?
Just tried the dimarzio super distortion in the Kramer.
Sounded weak and raspy. Strange really as its beefy and aggressive in the Jackson.
The harmonics were better but it had no bass or warmth.
Didn't play with eq tho as its pretty much set on neutral.
You think the wood could be crap?
Strange how stock is muddy a sorta lifeless and that was total opposite.
May go for a jb and 59 set.
I'm really tempted to have emg 81-85 set with 24volt mod as I know it works in a mahogany body Ibanez I had before.

How close did you have the pickup to the strings? The DSD (and MM 1300) is, in my experience, one of the most sensitive to closeness to strings.mrjones2004x wrote:Just tried the dimarzio super distortion in the Kramer.

Oh yeah, he's one of the very, very good players out there. Still, his pickup is not for hair metal.Cabbagebreeze wrote:that was nice...apparently A Timmons is a better guitar player than I

Re: kramer pacer mahogany body with marshall. which pickups?
I thought Andy T has been using a JB pickup... I didn't like it, tried with basswood and alder, sounded over compressed and lifeless...maybe wrong pieces of wood, but won't try it again any time soon
A dsd is pretty bright and twangy sounding and scooped, but lots of low end and chunk is also there..double check the wiring, volume pot

YES! True of several DiMarzios like that. Now messing with a Tone Zone T in my Tele, can sound significantly different based on height. True of the DSD, the Vai Gravity Storm and I presume the EBMM EVH pickups.rgorke wrote:The DSD (and MM 1300) is, in my experience, one of the most sensitive to closeness to strings.

I can't choose between these guys for my future LP....

Now that Holy Diver is "Hair Metal". The Crawler sounds like a regular P.A.F. with just a bit more output-I don't hear any "Hair Metal" in that pickup...fhn_lopes wrote:I also like the Holy Diver for bridge position

Allen, I may be thinking of Hair Metal under certain other terms, but I came up in Hair metal bands, and bands like , Ozzy,Ratt, Motley Crue, Dokken, Great White,Poison, towards the end of that era, bands like G'n'R, White Lion, Skid Row entered in. I liked the tone that many of these bands got, and most of them was using Seymour Duncan JB or Distortion models. Maybe a Duncan custom here or there (Queensryche) or a Dimarzio Super Distortion. Robbin Crosby (rip) and Jake E. Lee used a Allen Holdsworth pu, which was a JB with two sets of adjustable pole pieces, which enhanced the high end and punch a bit more. The JB was in more guitars of that era than any other, from Hair Metal to thrash.
