It's a bit rich of him to talk about creativity and taking the easy way out when CF's songs sound like they were put together the easiest way possible, hagar references his montrose past and satriani plays his old tired iconic licks endlessly.

Ya know, Sammy Hagar obviously has a powerful Rock voice, and has amazingly retained it into his 60s, but I don't think he was ever right for VH, and I think his songwriting SUCKS. I also think that while Joe Satriani is an amazingly talented and skilled guitarist, he's much better at instrumental guitar Rock than he is in a band situation. There's just nothing spectacular about Chickenfoot songs.

Sam would have been wise to have instead taken the high road regarding his comments on the new VH album.
He would have appeared to have a lot more class than he does.

My only real gripe with VH is the absence of Michael Anthony in the band. They are in no way inferior to Chickenfoot...

How hiliarious would that be , Sammy getting the Young bros to play I Can`t Drive 55 and One Way To Rock then he could send the band offstage to do his solo spot on Eagles Fly. I can`t believe that crap went down at VH concerts

Is Sam aware that songs such as standing on top of the world were old riffs reworked by the band? I wonder how many others.

...here we go... :fight:

...having read Sammy's book (in half-a-day), I can really see why Sammy would be choked...He put up with a lot of crap from the brothers and how he survived that '05 reunion tour is beyond me...Let's face it, VH became a pop band when Sammy joined the band and you can't deny their success..I dig the Sammy-era stuff from a songwriting perspective, not so much guitar-tone perspective -- some really good songs there and he is a great songwriter... I really wonder if VH would have continued to have success with Roth into the '90's like they did with Sammy -- I kinda doubt it...

..having said that...their's a lot of BS in that book and double-standard crap...he treated Betsy like shit even though she stuck beside him when he was a loser in the '70's...and as far as Sammy's right-wing political leanings -- he went on welfare when he had to...So there is a lot of double-talk from this guy, and always has been...The new CF song is a complete throw-back to the old solo stuff like "I'll Fall In Love Again", no doubt very pop-orientated...

...I probably agree with him that "on paper", Chickenfoot is probably a better band ""technically" then Van Halen...but there is the intangible and that is the magic of Van Halen where they don't sound like anyone else...never have, never will and that's because Eddie is in a different mental sphere than everyone else -- for the good, and of course at times, for the bad  ...there is no magic in Satriani's riff's or songwriting abilities and there is more to being a guitar player than being able to play a gazillion modal variations over a basic A7 chord.

...Sammy's living proof that money just doesn't bring you happiness, cuz he has ALL the money yet he sure as hell doesn't seem like he has any peace-of-mind...his ego just can't take the fact that VH is legendary because of Roth and he will always be a footnote to the bands success, even though they had the most success with him in the band...Talk about getting the double-ended-irony back in your face

Sammy's not a "right-winger". He's a Republican, but nowadays most Republicans are Liberals. Of course they're not Leftist Commies ("Progressives") like most Democrats are, but they're certainly not "right-wingers". Almost no one in the entertainment industry is a right-winger...

I love both incarnations of the Van Halen. Not much for the Cherone era though. That said, the first Chickenfoot CD had promise. I was really looking forward to the second. The second shows a tight band playing, Nothing much else. A few nice riffs. It doesn't grab you at all. No inspiring songs, or great hooks. Satriani is absoultely one of my favorite guitarist. Second behind Eddie. But he is holding back too much. Hager has written nothing on there that plays in the jukebox of my mind. I am a big Sammy fan too. Truly the best part of the second CD is Michael Anthony. This voice is the best. A super bass player who lays back and builds a tapistry for others to paint on.

Eddie on ADKOT just lets loose. It just seeps into your mind like steamy hot water mixing and a special blend of grounds making a great cup of coffee. I hear the riffs in my mind all day. I keep hearing DLR in Get Frosty..Ahhh ah ah, Ahhh ah ah, Ahh ah ah ah ah ah ah. Man oh man.

Oh and there are only two things I truly don't like about ADKOT. The guitar tone, (which at times downright annoying, very nasel and cracked wah sounding) I also hate the whammy pedal, It sounds so thin and tinny. The other part I don't like is the mix which is hiding Eddies playing. It gets lost in the background sometimes; It doesn't cut through.

Yeah, I agree. Its like the riffs and rythm work is buried so to speak. Difficult to hear. But some of the solos are cuttin like a knife though just fine. I am hearing a very naked Balance tone slightly modified and tweaked.
