Superbass SB/10038
Here's my latest Superbass replica. I've been experimenting with adding a patina to the steel chassis. Lots of trial and error to get the color and texture right. I thought this one was pretty close to a fairly tarnished vintage one, like my '68.
I also stained the PT a darker brown color. The color isn't exact yet but the affect is pretty cool.
I've been trying different types of products to get the red varnish right for a while now. I think this latest concoction is really, really close.

Sweet George ! With that date are you naming it "The King" or The Super King or SuperBass King.
uh huh. yeah babeh.
You know, just one more day & you coulda' put my B-day on there
... oh wait ! ... aint that Waggy Paggy's !
Patina 's kool from the polished. With trying your hand out on this, will it be offered as an option once your Mad Scientist (muriatic?) concoction is blended...
I'll bet it sounds smokin', man ! What speakers would you recommend matching that up with.
nice tinned lead-dress wire there I spy...

Hey Jimi, I've been on a G12H kick here lately. Especially bass cone H's. They kill with this amp.
IDK guys, this shit is messy and I kinda suck at it. It takes me several tries to get something appealing. Adds at least a few hours to the process. Maybe if I get better I'll make it an option. Relic series! Might as well beat up the head cabs and break the logos too.

Wow!...The patina on the chassis looks really good and the red marking varnish looks "spot on". The PT color seems to be a shade or two to dark compared to the natually aged Drake's. What happened to that poor choke?....Did it get the dunk treatment?

Re: Superbass SB/10038
Thanks! Agreed on the PT. I need more testing to nail the reddish-brown color.
I tried adding patina to a few more chassis last night. This one is a more yellow color. The results were not so good. I'll likely be sanding it all off and starting over.

I've heard guys joke about relic-ing Strat bodies by putting them in a gunny sack and dragging them around the parking lot at the Fender facility with their car, though I don't know if there's any truth to that story...Relic series! Might as well beat up the head cabs and break the logos too.

Seriously, though, the amp looks terrific!

Wow... +1 on the G12H... My favorite speaker. I have some pre rolas.
Just one thing left now George.
Dark Chocolate Perf Diamond Rectifier Black Flag.
I'm going to build one. I have the Chassis/ boards... Just need the panels and OT
That patina looks really authentic bro.
Does the Red Dye smell right? It looks perfect.

Thanks Mike, yeah I'd love to build a black flag replica. I need a set of panels to document. Such a great amp in the plexi timeline.

Re: Superbass SB/10038
There have been Black Flag panels produced the last few years. but I have lost the links due to my computer problems.
The ones I saw were spot on, the lettering is critical to the accuracy..

Re: Superbass SB/10038
We can scan full length panels in one pass now, rather than trying to photoshop multiple scans together. No reason not to nail them.
To truly replicate a black flag I would want a real one for reference. The frequency sweeps and A/B comparisons reveal so much that I kind of don't want to build anything that isn't referenced to an original. it also means my builds are now more accurately described as "replica of SL/ 12380" rather than just "12 Series".
