Head Master amp switcher - available for pre-order

The Head Master is in production and I am comfortable taken some pre-orders now. I created listing in the metroamp store:

http://metroamp.com/store/index.php?mai ... x&cPath=86" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The chassis only version will be ready to ship in early September, with the head cab version following after.

Please note that the cable set price may still change. I am working with Mogami to see what I can fit into the budget for the speaker cables.

Feel free to email me with any questions.

I am wondering if it is rack-mountable.

That thing looks badass George. And for the price point you could have one clean set amp and one dirty for live use. I think I am very interested in one of these!

Love the Marshall gold metal finish as well!

Hi George, I guess my brain might be malfuctioning, what's the difference between the Head Master and the Head Master Royal? Would it be safe to use an attenuator or a dummy load in between the head master and the cabinet? Thanks.

The only difference is the "Royal" version is in a wooden headcab. But the company that was going to make them decided they couldn't do it a the quoted price. So only the chassis version is currently available. I'll update as soon as I find another source for the boxes.

Thanks for the quick response. I would rather have it with out the cab since it's mainly going to be used in my studio for A/B ing amps quickly with the same cab while I'm recording.

I sometimes use a dummy load into a tube power amp or an attenuator depending on the sound I'm going after, so it would be ok to use the Head Master with both dummyload or Attenuator? I've been waiting for somebody to build a unit like this for a long time! Maybe some day you can build one that can handle 4 different heads!LOL! That would be a great way to try different heads while re amping guitars in my studio! Thanks!

The description says it correctly loads the idle amp's output.....irregardless of the output impedance of the idle amp? No issues with A/B-ing a 16-ohm Marshall and a 4-ohm Fender Showman for instance? (Sure, it shouldn't be as critical just idling with no input, I'm just sayin'.........)

Irregardless isn't a word. It's regardless, regardless of how it's used!
Sorry, couldn't resist! :D My Gramps was an English Professor and hammered me my entire upbringing.
Nice to see you back again Flames, where the hell have you been?
Sorry to go off topic.
I was curious as well regarding *load* when switching and one is still cranked yet not going into the speaker.
Wasn't thinking so much impedance miss-match , but the OT on the *off* position.

I've been in the background approving users.....haven't built anything in three years though. Last deal I did I got cleaned out for a bunch of shit that wasn't my fault but I got stuck paying for it anyway. After that I couldn't afford anything to build the next project and got a bit sour on things for a while.
Kinda starting to get the itch again........

The loads are 50 watt 15 ohm. One for each amp. Plenty enough to absorb anything from the idle amp, but not a full time load for a working 100 watt.

I imagine the switcher requires a 16 ohm cabinet, is this correct George.

I was going to use this on an 8 ohm 2x 12 cabinet as well. If the amp heads are set to 8 ohms I imagine the 15 ohm mismatch wouldn't be too bad on the Output transformer would it George?

I don't want any arcing in my Output transformers.

Would this work with the above 8 ohm cabinet setup George? What do you think?

The 15 ohm loads are a very safe "mis-match" for amps running at 8 ohms. Especially so since the loaded amp is technically muted, and only ideling. Even 4 ohm operation is not an issue. For perspective, most other switchers I'm aware of actually short the output of the inactive amp to itself.
