The 400V setting is the virtual variac setting. And since the heaters are working normally at 6.3V you could variac the amp down to the typical 90 volt range.

At 30% lower input the B+ would drop to just under 300 volts!

The only issue would be that the preamp voltage would now be so low that you would have very little linear operating range. Resulting in lots of distortion. Whether it's the good kind of distortion is up to you.

Bottom line, yes this would work.

 Thanks George! I just reread my post and realized i made a mistake in what i wrote. I typed '500' instead of 400 volts for the VH tone, Oops. So if i had it set to the 400 volt setting and THEN still added my variac, would that be going rediculously too low?

**edit...skip that question, i just realized you already answered it in the first post. Don't mind me, i'm brain dead today lol.

Hey, guys!!

Is this amp going to be available in a kit? Or, is it just offered as a production model?

Sorry if this is a stupid question!!

You might be right, considering George´s take on any amp older than the standard 69 kit.

However, I think than any of the more experiensed builders on this board could build one with all the parts that George sells, If they can figure the voltage thing (my guess is the two tap transformer, with something extra, but what do I know?)

I really want to see how those that are building to Ralle´s specs turn out.

Oh of course anyone here could figure out any amps George is selling in kits or NOT in kits, we have all the parts for it right here but George has to keep a few things for himseft like that stby 3 positions/voltage mod for is EVH amp and I agree with that, just do the EVH part only or keep the amp open swap the wires at the power to change your B+ rebias and you are there..........

It was also a matter of the time investment in tech support for more kits...he doesn't have any time right now as is.....

Absolutely correct, Flames. I couldn't feel good about releasing another kit until the 100 watt instructions are revamped.

It would be difficult to nail down a kit for each of the transitional 100's between 66 and 69 too.

I'm afraid you'll have to piece early builds together with just a parts list, bare bones kit, high resolution pics and Dan's fantastic diagrams.

I don't know how I missed this thread, but congrats to you George. I've got a feeling that you are going to be extremely busy over the next year. I mean, it isn't often that I see a review that says, "this amp has the magic." People are going to be knocking your door down to get one of those babies.
Why is it we can remember where all the wires go, but can never find a pick?
