Mustard as snubber cap in 45/100?

Post by emmjaydubya » Fri Mar 14, 2014 10:16 am

Was curious if anyone knows if it's okay to use a Mullard mustard as a snubber cap on the power board in a 45/100? I found some .047uf mustards rated at 1000 volts so the numbers look good. Is the mustard the right material (foil) or should I look for a specific cap construction?

I've used those in that position before, it's safe. Not historically accurate, but perfectly useable.

Thanks George! I've been having a hard time finding anything historically accurate at all, no vintage .05 caps to be had for months on the bay. I did find a seller who has .1uf 1000v Radiospares caps but I've never seen that value on 45/100s, wasn't sure if that value would be right? At least the mustard would look cool...

Not sure the snubber is really needed if you use uf4007 diodes. You could use two .1uf caps in series if you are worried about the voltage

I was planning on using the top hat diodes, I've read they are somewhere in between regular and ultra-fast diodes. If I used UF diodes I think the 3A UF5408 would be more reliable? I could run the .1s in series if there is room on the board...

If you had one, I think I would pay whatever you asked for it! :toast:
