Hi

This is my first post. I'm planning my first build, a JTM45. I've starting buying parts and I'm sure i'm going to have lots of questions but for now I'll just ask one.

The connections under the turret board are made using 20 gauge buss wire and insulation (as per the metroamp instructions). As this is my first build I was thinking about making all connections on the top of the turret board (for trouble shooting if required). Is there a reason for using the buss wire and insulation rather than standard 22 gauge wire?

Does the 20 gauge buss wire eliminate any potential slack if making the connections under the board?

I think that if you are new to building then putting the wires on top of the board like the later amps is an excellent idea. The early JTM45s actually used normal covered wire, not bus wire so I would use what you are comfortable with

Take care to make a single tight wrap of the core around each turret and keep the wires nice and straight on the board otherwise it will look sloppy and bug you later

I wish I would have thought to put my wires on top as well when I started my build. Good idea...

I've got a perforated turret board so I plan to feed the wire under the board and up adjacent to the corresponding turret then make the connection. Neil makes a good point about trying to keep the wires straight. The connections under the board are nicely hidden, I guess it's difficult to make these look nice on top of the board.

Ill see what it looks like laid out on the board, dry. If they look bad I may consider a few connections underneath.
