Help needed: 2203 tone control problems

Post by 2203jmp » Sat Aug 04, 2012 6:37 pm

Howdy gang I recently modified my marshall 2203 with some different switching options and now the tone controls dont seem to want to act right. As shown in the video attached, once one of the controls reaches a certain point the sound kind of pops and the feedback after holding a note or chord will die off quicker and it also produces a scratchy like tone after the pot passes a certain point.

Any tips on correcting this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Ya pretty much.. I'll be home tomorrow around noon and four if somebody wants to come over and fix it for me :wink:. But no I was actually hoping somebody with some amp knowledge could point me in the direction of what's causing the problem.

This is the beginners questions subform after all isnt it? :? :what:

You have to be kissy-kissy first with Art before he will give up the goods or even go past 'first base'!!

One of our previous moderators (Novosibir) is German and would be very prickly about new people introducing themselves properly a bit like you might have to at an 'AA' meeting :wink:

I think that before anyone can help you we will need to know which version you have and what mods you did, then some pictures of your handywork. With those details most things can be sorted 8)

Yep. Got no idea what's going on until you can show us and tell us exactly which parts you have 'disturbed', so to speak...

Remembered my password so now I got my post count back :wink: . But heres whats been done so far;

http://www.mediafire.com/?njr3o5maln62sir

Right now it has switchable bright caps via a mini toggle, switchable extra gain stage via toggle, switchable bypass cap on extra gainstage via toggle, switchable tonestack via toggle on back, switchable cathode cap on v2a via a toggle on the back. added NFB pot mod that ranges from 27k to 100k, Lar/mar ppimv, zero-loss loop, Hot shield on V1.Theres a 150k to ground from the preamp gain pot, 470k to ground from the gainpot, and last but not least a a toggle to switch between 2200pf or 470pf to ground from the preamp gain pot. I tried to go for a little versatility :stars: :mrgreen:

But yeah any help would be appreciated!
