New Member Intro
Greetings to all, I joined after deciding to build a JTM45/100. I see some members here from other forums and like they say you can't build just one amp. I hope to have a variety of amps to play with in my retirement days. One question I have and hope someone can help, is a member posted an amplifier build for his sibling brother and I can not seem to relocate it through the search option. Glad to be on board!

Yep, I'm kind of new here as well.
Trying to bone up on my Marshall amp knowledge so as soon as I can spare the bucks, I will order a kit.
It's a great forum full of smart people!

Looking foward to completing kit (JTM45/100)which I purchased from another member by way of ebay. Looks like a Metro chassis (aluminum) with many goodies and CD. Needs trannies ,pots, front & rear panels, power supply caps and cab. I will be visiting the metro store real soon or as funds allow.

I will be sourcing parts throuh Metroamp this coming week for the JTM 45/100. I have other builds in progress but was forced to relocate. Storage swallowed-up some amp stuff so JTM is primary & up front. This build will help keep my sanity if you know what I mean. I would like to use MM trannies, but we'll see. Going over parts list today.

If you are building a JTM45/100 you would really be best buying the Metro Heyboer trannies - honestly (and I am not on commission). If you were building a high gain type amp or even JCM800 I might go with MM but stick to the 'house' transformer for this one, trust meroadkingbluzs wrote:I will be sourcing parts throuh Metroamp this coming week for the JTM 45/100. Just the kind of input I like. Lot of great info on this build already so it should be lots of fun with a killer tone. Leaning toward the Metro Xfmrs. Thanks Guys

You know, I have nothing against Mercury Magnetics transformers because I do believe they make good transformers but I think they have more PR behind their brand than any other transformer company.
Do I think they are over priced? Probably.
The brand name carries a lot of clout. It really adds some zing in an eBay add when you can say, Transformers by Mercury Magnetics and of course they have made a lot on upgrade kits for amps like the Valve Jr.
Here is a shootout of output transformers.
I won't tell you which one I think is the best sounding because tonal quality is completely subjective.
My holy grail may not and probably isn't your holy grail.
I'm just saying there are compatible transformers out there that will do the job and do the job quite nicely, for less money.

Wow, subjective alright. Now this is a 50 watt not hundred and MC does not offer the 45/100 100 watter. Sooo if one had a choice between Metro tranny or MM tranny which would come out on top. Cost is not the issue here as I can purchase either for about same price. BTW are there any sound clips of the MM 45/100 tranny. I'll do a search as you all ponder this question.
Bob
