Another new guy intro
Another new guy finds this forum!
A poster to the 18Watt forum mentioned this place so I thought I'd check it out.
So here goes: I'm an old fart (54) that played for a year or so back in the early 70's. Never was very good and got frustrated... life got in the way until at 50 I decided to give it a try again. Still not very good but I'm having fun, LOL.
I'm an electronics tech in an R&D lab and have always wanted to build a tube amp. So I got the bug about a year ago and have now got a few amp builds under my belt. I love the Marshall tone and crunch. Since I don't gig anywhere, the 18 watt design seemed perfect for my style. But... ya gotta run these dimed to get that great sound. Still pretty loud, EH!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading a bunch and finding some new ideas here along with perhaps some new friends.
Thanks for giving me another forum to partake in.

Welcome to the forum! BTW 54 isn't that old
I"m 54 myself and I think there may be a few a tad older that hang around here. Really don't know who is the oldest member here. Anyway this is the right place if you have any questions or need any help or want to help someone.

54 considered "old"? I dare you to tell Little Richard that!
Anyway, welcome to the forum.

Yeah, I'm 52 and only my body feels old.
Like a few of you I have been involved in electronics most my life.
About 5-6 years ago I got back into tube amps after using a SS amp for many years.
I missed my tubes!
I built a Brown Note D'Lite 44 (6L6) amp about two years ago and have built a couple other smaller amps since.
But, I have never owned an all tube Marshall amp!
About 8 years ago I bought a Valvestate 50 w head and slant cab.
Sorry, but those things sound like ass.
So when I can afford to I am going to build a Metro, probably the Plexi 50 or 100w SL.
I can't wait to build it but money is tight in these times so I may have to sell some toys to do it.
Great forum and I have been learning a lot about the Marshall circuits here as well.

Re: Another new guy intro
Welcome. I too am new as of a week ago. Been looking at this site for a couple of weeks. And due to the kindness and the help that everyone offers here I just ordered a Plexi 50. It will be my first build and my first Marshall style amp. I have Mesa's and an old Bandmaster. I am 50 but don't feel a day over 30
.
I have a '91 Strat Plus with the David Gilmoure EMG's. Can't wait to run it into the Plexi. I also have a Les Paul Custom that I bought in '81, new, and it has never been giged with. Can't believe I only paid $600 for it back in '81. Now I really can't wait to run the Paul into the Plexi.
Looking forward to getting help when needed. I will post pics along the way. Not sure if I should do it here or in the Plexi 50 forum?? Any suggestions?
Thanks

You're really gonna love that LP through your Metro head. That's all I gigged with from '04 to '07...Metro with a Power Brake and Les Paul w/EMGs...my only pedals were my Vox Wah and MXR Phase 90. However this time I'm thinkin' about building a Univibe clone and adding that to my setup. Something about those optocoupled phase shifters that really gets to me and is a tone you could never get with a phase shifter that uses an FET to change the shift frequency.gitman59 wrote:Welcome.
