Hello everybody!
I discovered Metroamp just few months ago, and I ask myself how its possible to not have heard about these amps until this year. Well, anyway - I`m very glad to be here now, and I have already in order a 50 watt plexi head.
I have a question about a matching cab for my kit. I have in reach a Marshall 4x10 1965a cab, and I wonder if anyone of you out there can tell me if this will match my 50 watt Metro. The cab has celestion G10-35 speakers, and was build sometime in the 80th`s.
I`m thinking of pairing it up with my Marshall 2061AX 2x12 cabinet with G12H-30 (I was happy with this cab until the other guitarist in my band bought himself a 4x12 1960AX to run his Suhr badger 18, and I was afraid my 2x12 cab was gonna sound to thin compared to his. I`m supposed to be the lead guitarist in the band).
So do you think this 1965A 4x10 will match my 50 watt metro?
Best Regards

Re: Cab question for my 50 watt metroplexi
Hello
Welcome aboard
What music do you play?
Most of us would find that a cranked JMP50 through a 2x12 would still be extremely loud. The only issue would be if you run the amp above 8 all the time hitting the front end with a Metal-zone type pedal that the speakers are likely to suffer in the long term. If you play rock/blues with a crunchy amp and occasional lead boosts they will be perfect.
Sorry cannot comment on the 4x12 apart from aesthetically they go together with a smallbox head nicely

Re: Cab question for my 50 watt metroplexi
Thanks for your reply Neil!
Yes, you`re right - I forgot to mention the music we play. Me and my band we live in the 70ths playing Stones, ACDC, ZZ top, Status Quo, Ramones, Priest, Chuck Berry, etc - shortly speaking the music we all have spent countless hours playing airguitar to the past 30 years (and some real guitar the latest 15).
Nowadays I find the Australian band Airbourne well worth a listen. What a great overdriven plexi sound they have playing those Marshallamps on full speed. I hope my Metro will get me into Airbourne territory!
Well, about my cab situation. I dont have very much experience with head/cab gear. I`ve been a comboman almost all the time. Last year I sold my Diezel Einstein combo, and bought a Fargen Mini Plex along with the 2060cx 2x12 cab. That was a perfect match, but the MP lacked some headroom when it came to soloboosting. It was with great sorrow I had to let the MP go, but my hope is that the 50 watt Metro will get me even closer to the real thing. I understand the volum on the Metro is a different story than the 12 watt MP (just like the originals I guess). I have a Weber Mass 150 I indent to use with the Metro hoping it will reduce the earbleeding a bit.
Since I opened this topic yesterday I have also been offered a good deal on a Marshall Vintage Modern 4x12 cab with those 25 watt Celestion G12c`s. Maybe thats a better choice for the Metro rather than the 4x10 cab.
One question: Is the point to divide the amps output on as many speakers as possible to reduce the overall volum? (dumb question I know, but what the hell).

Re: Cab question for my 50 watt metroplexi
I run my jtm45ri into a 4x10 combo cab, custom made by Mojotone, loaded with Weber Silver Ten's. I like this very much, but for true Plexi tone there is nothing better than a 4x12 cab loaded with some kind of Celestion type speakers.
As for your "power handling" question. Your Metroplexi will put out well above the stated power rating, I've read here on this forum some may peak to over 100 watts! What you want to have, with 4 speaker configuration, is the sum of the wattage of each speaker to equal your peak power. This will prevent speaker damage. In your case, the combined wattage should be at least 100 watts, so 25 watts a speaker would be adequate.
If you had only 2 speakers they would need to be at least 50 watts each and so on.

Re: Cab question for my 50 watt metroplexi
Welcome!
The 4x12s are heavy and bulky. But, at least for me worth the struggle. I have not tried any 4x10s though. Compared to a 2x12 they will move more air, so for overall volume (db) it will not be reduced. Rather the opposite.
You may use the Weber for that. If you are going for a Metro 50 I would recommend the LarMar master volume. You will get nice plexi sound at bedroom volume if you want to. The LarMar kit costs $ 8.00. Install that and have the Weber as a backup, if ever needed.
Hope your search will be rewarded

Re: Cab question for my 50 watt metroplexi
Thank you all for your kind advices. I did order the LarMar MV. Here`s my plan: I set the MV to my soloing volum, and then adjust the Weber for the rythm parts lowering the volum about 20 db or so. When I want to solo I just hit the footswitchable bypass on the Weber to bring me back to the MV settings about 20 db higher. That should work, should`t it?Omn wrote:You may use the Weber for that. Or maybe my clean boost pedal may work again on the Metro. It didnt on the Mini Plex because the amp was maxed out already at the rythm setting.
Oboy this is gonna be fun. I cant wait `til the Metro is in the house!

20db boost..., what are those other guys? Animals?
Try the boost pedal first. In front of the amp. Then in the jumper-loop. And see what will suit you.

LOL LOL LOL. Makes me think of the Muppet Show, and yes, thats a very good comperasion. OK, the soloboost may not be 20db, but I think you understod what I ment. But I`m gonna try the cleanboost pedal first as you suggest.Omn wrote:20db boost..., what are those other guys? Animals?
