I have a RadioShack 40 watt soldering gun that just plugs straight into the wall I started with and also a Weller WTCPT soldering station. The Radioshack works pretty good, and hasn't let me down in the year or so I've had it. Quality isn't the greatest, but if your just starting out it will work fine. The WTCPT is good quality and seems very durable. It'll set you back $100-150, though.
