YMI5150? 12003 build
Eric's clips are motivating me to get its replacement online as quickly as I can crank it out. Nice to have a couple builds under the belt. it makes things a lot more efficient. making the necessary chassis mods up front is key. drilling for the different trannies and larry grounding without anything in it is nice.
Specs:
CM 2562 Laydown PT
Toneclone 2" Drake 2.2k VZ OT (thanks again to the late, great Ben Wise for specing that out and making it available to us)
Toneclone 3.8H choke
Identical V1 cathodes (I latter swapped out V1a with a mustard) 820/.68, to clear up the normal channel and allow me to be able to jump channels with effects blended in if desired.
RCA Fat bottles
Biased to variac to 92 VAC
the last shot is about 15 intense hours in. a few loose ends to tie up and the filter board install is about all that's left. its very similar to the 12002 build I did for Brian but has a few more Iskras and Pihers, as well as NOS radial filters that required a different turret layout. thanks to Robert (Valvestorm) and Brian for working that out.
A new job and upcoming vacation are sort of in the way of a test run soon but I hope to have it wired, cap forming, and tested before next week. all the caps came formed from Valvestorm but I have a dual 20 that came from Good Guest that I want to put in the preamp filter spot for some nice mojo.

She's a beauty Kevin, glad I can motivate you to finish it up. Maybe next year when Phil's healed up a bit he can come out to CA and we treat him to play the bevy of amps

Nice work, again, Kevin!
Hmmm...yep, looks like some StuntDouble approved stuff going on in there, yes? Been thinking about giving that a try in mine too.vanhalen5150 wrote:Looks neato! Couple of box caps eh?

I don't like your amp, it's missing some mustards and a correct 250/350uf cap. Give me your address so I can send you some.

Appreciate the honesty
I have the "right parts". That's intentional.
Cheers

That's cool, let me know if you change your mind. Your green leads are to long. BTW don't ever post pictures with out posting sound clips. Just a simple rule.

Nice, your really cruising along with this build. Brian should have alternative boards for the laydown cans for sure, or we can start building our own boards! What tranny's are going in here? For me, it's a great feeling when you get the hang of this stuff and start laying things out with confidence and flare. The board looks great, the heaters and socket wiring looks clean and not self conscious. Of course the 470 and odd 68k resistors are driving me absolutely batty

Re: YMI5150? 12003 build
Thx strat. Have any iskras to fill in those last couple spots for me?
I did the identical v1 cathodes on the build Eric has because the normal channel is so muddy that I'd never use it. This way I can jump in effects up front and blend to taste. I did that with a blue 6 band and got damn close to first album tone.
Trannies are same as the build I did for Brian: CM 2562 using lower taps, merc 2.2k 2" OT, 3.8H choke. Nothing we haven't tried yet but a proven stellar configuration. I have some killer old 12ax7s and rgorke helped me complete my quad of Sylvania fat bottles.

Yeah, that odd 68k looks out of place. I checked my stock and I don't have one. There is a guy on eBay that has a good supply of the 68k 1/2 watt that look nice .....oh and sound good too.
I have put the chicklet and Mylar dipped caps in and have never looked back. Those were fantastic finds and suggestions. Hey add grit and clarity while the mustards are warm and smooth.

Whazzgroover has the 1w 68k that would fill that spot. He also has the 470 and 820 too.

Re: YMI5150? 12003 build
Fly back today, pack the house this weekend, movers come Monday. Trying not to think about it...
Was on the beach for the wicked storm Saturday. Did you east coast builders lose power?
Clips are a couple weeks out. Need to get settled. Planning on having ender and efraser over later this month. Might record some stuff. We'll have this new build, my first build that Eric now has, and Enders metro Friedman on tap that day. Rock on!

Re: YMI5150? 12003 build
I was in LA when the storm hit. We lost power for only about an hour. But then the AC went out. A 90 yr old woman was killed when she was hit by a tree sleeping in bed just around the corner.YMI5150? wrote:Fly back today, pack the house this weekend, movers come Monday. Can't wait to hear tone summit 3.0.

Re: YMI5150? 12003 build
had a few minutes to power up and take measurements. the bias voltage on pin 5 is -120 and does not change with the pot.
attached is the data. obviously no power tubes in yet.
Thanks!
edited to correct pin 9 data.
