That is straight in? Sounds great after only a few mins on. Send that pickup to Lindy Fralin. He will pot it for $10 and the turn around is less than a week. He is down in Richmond, VA.Strat78 wrote:So here is a short clip. The tone in the room was horrid and the feedback was beyond control, I seriously wanted to hang it up today. However, somehow something better came through on the recording, it's not great, but the gain and hair is sort of nice. I'm going to switch the tap over to 16ohm and look into waxing this old Mighty Mite #1300. Still frustrated though, kind of just spinning my wheels here.

I bet running it through the Echoplex, etc would put you on VH1's doorstep. It has that great grit, tight and muscular tone!

What caps are those in the mixer and the tone stack? The tone stack looks like a mica but what is the skinny one in the mixer? Values? 560 for both or 500?Strat78 wrote:Finished the build last night and she sure is purdy.I'll call it the "knee" amp sense it brought some distraction from the 24/7 f'n pain from the surgery. Built most of it in bed from 2am to 5am each morning. I'll form the caps this afternoon and do a readings chart tomorrow. I really want to hear these new tranny's!

I've been potting my own pickups for a while. Paraffin/beeswax combo in a small can. I add about 3 inches of water to a pot and set the can inside. Pretty easy. Just don't heat on an open flame! For $10 though that's a good deal. Beeswax is pretty expensive for the amount you'll need if your only doing a few.
I also just found a complete set of piher I totally forgot I had. 2 10k, 8.2kand a 27k are in there as well. When you forget stuff like that either you have too much or getting old.
Maybe a complete piher/mustard build?

I actually chatted with Lindy for a bit. I didn't realize it was him until we were almost done. If I would have been prepared I would have picked his brain a bit.

Beautiful quartet of black backs on eBay, though shipping might be a killer.

Mine came from the Uk. Shipped by DHL, I think it was about $180.00 US with insurance. You'll get hit with some customs and brokerage fees sometimes as well. I'm a little shy of buying the old speakers now. While they may look like they are in mint condition, you just don't know how much use is on them. The Blacks I got from jape88 are killer though. By far my favorite speaker.
Top dollar for 35 year old speakers. Who da thunk.....

I also scored another one of these for $45. It works too. Now I have 2, does that mean I have to build a bomb?

Nothing against the seller. You only now what the last owner told you. Thats what these speakers go for price wise. In fact, it's a very fair price. If I had an empty cab, I'd take them.neikeel wrote:The vendor is a regular poster here.Strat78 wrote:Beautiful quartet of black backs on eBay, though shipping might be a killer.

I did not get that vibe, just thought if someone might be thinking twice then that might help make their mind up!vanhalen5150 wrote:Niothing against the seller. Thats what these speakers go for. We will hope that DHS isn't monitoring the Metro Amp forum.vanhalen5150 wrote:I also scored another one of these for $45. It works too. Now I have 2, does that mean I have to build a bomb?
