Carvin X-100B

What can I say. I had a chance to buy this thing for $200.00. It looks like someone had painted it blue as some point and the Carvin "signature" is missing from the front. I run it thru a Marshall 4 X 12. For anyone that is not familliar with this head, it is the same kind that Steve Via (so what!) used to use in the late 80's & early 90's and was the predecessor to the Carvin Legacy (Steve Via design). Anyway, I get this 100 watt beast about 1 1/2 years ago. I am a hobbiest so I don't want to put a ton of money into my music equipment. The tubes light up, I have plenty of power, good tone, and a buzzing sound. I play single coils (Telecaster) so I figure it is time for a stacked humbucker for the Tele for more crunch and less buzz. Low and behold, the buzzing goes away! Now, move forward about 1 1/2 years. I have been gigging a lot and making some extra money and my fiance' bought me an ASAT (she really loves me!). I am not about to change the pick-ups in my ASAT. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO, DAMN IT! Crazy me, I decide to change the tubes in my amp (just on a hunch). Well, those may have been the original tubes I pulled out of that thing. I will follow up with the brand of tubes that I used, but the buzzing is almost completely gone (even from the single coils) and it sounds incredible. I can make this amp sound like a Fender, Marshall, Boogie, whatever I want without a modeller and for $200.00 (the new tubes cost approx. $115.00 at Bogners in Flint). Moral of the story is: Don't change your pick-ups before you change your tubes unless it is a new amp!

hey man good point and enjoy your amp as AC/DC say LET THERE BE ROCK!. A piece of advice for you don't mention marshall and boogie in the same sentence

I did it and the other guys weren't happy and read the post about the annoying guest that pissed us all off.

Cranking that beast to 10 must have been an experience! I am here to tell you, the dirty channel on 4 is freakin' loud! Of course, I would love to have a Marshall but for the time being, my Carvin is just fine! I am running my ASAT, '91 American Std. Tele, '73 Tele Custom, etc. thru this thing and I couldn't be happier. Again, 100 watts for $200.00, how could I go wrong?!
