kt 66 60 mA

Post by SB Monster » Fri Oct 21, 2005 8:05 am

Guys, I've just got my kt66's installed in metro 100w super bas and my amp tech tells me that they are biased at 60mA with -50v and plate voltage of 470. This figure of 60 mA is recommended by watford valves and marshall apparently. Going by everything I've read I assume that this is on the hot side but he assures me that this is fine. I'm no expert in this stuff and the topic has come up in previoous threads, but does anyone think that this is ok? I don't want to fry them.

If that is per side of the output transformer (meaning for a pair of tubes) I'd say OK, that would be 30mA per tube........60mA per tube would sound like a burnout in progress. At -50V I'd guess that was per pair but you'll want to get this clarified by the guy who biased it.....
