New Amp Cab For My '78 MKII

Post by Hazy » Sun Aug 21, 2005 11:01 pm

Just finished a Birch/Red Oak cab for my 50 watter to match my two speaker cabs.

Amp/Cab:

Here's the 78 JMP with a JTM45 clone I got at the 2005 Dallas guitar show...no lettering on the clone. The clone's actually more of a mutt.

I made both of the cabs, a 2-10" and a 1-12" and now the 78 matches. I don't have a 4-12 Marshall cab and really all I need is a single 12" for nearly all of the places we play.

I was going to buy a Sultone Amp Cabinet but I got no reply from my e-mail to them. It's OK, I learned a lot and now my Marshall matches something.

Hey, the cabinet you made for your amp looks awesome. What kind of tools/supplies do you need to make a cab yourself. I've been thinking of building a 50 watt plexi and I'd like to have a natural wood finish on the box. How much does it cost for all the stuff you need? Thanks

Thanks. I've put four more coats on it since that pic and I'll post an updated pic later this week (when its dry).

I used birch board for the box (3/4"), birch plywood for the back (1/2") and red oak for the front (3/4"). The wood was about $75...I guess all total with hardware, paint and wood it was about $125.

The tools I used were a table saw, jig saw, disc sander, cordless drill, misc squares/straight edges and a drafting triangle.

With my 76. It looks better "live".
