Hi George- please can u clarify this advice you gave ( I know from experience how important it is to break sozo's in!)
You can also remove the output tubes. Then run some dynamic signal through the amp with the standby ON.
George
Does this mean I can take the El34's out of my 1987 leave the anp on stanby -plugged into a speaker then say run music from a cd via a mixing desk?
many thanks

It won't work to leave the amp on standby, you have to switch the standby to the "on" playing position.
Otherwise you've got the right idea.

Thanks Flames- so it is ok to run the amp on with the EL34's taken out ?
( Just checking I have got the correct understanding)
cheers

Yeah, that's the way I did it (no power tubes).

Yes. No need for a speaker plugged in either. Just dime it and slam the input with signal. Something like a CD or radio station that changes dynamically.
This won't break in your new OT though.

Thanks George- already after only 10 hrs the amp sounds less harsh.
Please can anyone comment on what happens to new output trannies- do they get smoother and if yes after approx how long?
thanks

You are probably wearing in your preamp tubes more so than breaking in your capacitors.

Hmm ok I guess I should try to redo mine then as I just set the amp without running a signal through it.

the "BEST" way to break in your sozo capacitors is by playing your guitar through the amplifier.

thats my favorite part of completing a build, actually playing the damn thing!

Ya, true! I'm actually really really liking the way my amp is sounding lately. It's not the EVH type grind that everytone seems to try to obtain, nor is it gritty as a 2203. Maybe the caps are finally starting to finish forming.

What did you upgrade, and with what?
