Attack Modeling

In George's OT test clip:

The amp produces a sound that almost sounds like an envelope filter on the attack of the chords to All Right Now. I love that sound.

What is it that produces that envelope filter-ish "wha" sound? It's probably a combination of things - but my question is has anyone ever tried to make this characteristic more pronounced?

I hear that sound in a pronounced way on early EVH recordings especially on some early demos prior to VHI. Those demos aren't as slick in the production and you can hear the sound of the amp more clearly. Just to be clear, i'm not talking about the phase shifter. I'm talking about the same kind of attack I hear in George's clip - but more pronounced.

Marshalls are just like that. Especially when you dial them in with more treble. Even Slashs Marshalls sound like a half cocked wah. Are you cranking your 2203 up high?

yeah - it's cranked up - and i hear it but...

i was wondering if anyone here may have broken it down to a science where that sonic quality of the amp could be exploited. maybe narrow it down to some certain components that can be altered to increase the effect.

so you are saying more treble can help. then i can dial that treble back after the marshall with the EQ before it hits my power amp so i don't take anybody's head off.

I honestly dont know. Im only guessing what Im thinking is the same as what your describing. To me to get a sound like that you dial in treble early in the preamp then if its too thin for you use .1s in the PI. Things arent always that simple though. Thats clip just sounds like a 1959 to me.
