You didn't mention, what you'd like to do with an oscilloscope, but...

Tektronix is the 'Marshall' of the oscilloscope world, you can't beat em! The Tektronix Type 453 has the crispest trace of any scope ever built and @ 50MHz with dual channel and triggering you can't go wrong. As I speak there is one on ebay going for $199.99 with 1 hour 50 mins to go, no bids. Anyone looking for their first scope should have a look at one of these. Internally they are a work of art and repairable, not like the surface mount crap they sell these days that costs you $$$$ for module changes.
If you want something more modern but still affordable, have a look at the 7000 series with plug-ins, theres a plug-in for every test you might ever want to make, even spectrum analyzers. My 7854 will do up to 400MHz and with a high speed sampler plug-in up to 1GHz.

Man its sweltering here... 00:27 hours and its still 27C :(
I guess having this toaster of a computer on and my 100w Marshall glowing away is adding a bit to the ambient temperature in here.
Time for a shower..............
