I wouldn't really recommend modding an amp like that, but if you must, make sure you do it so the mod is 100% reversible - no holes drilled etc.

To make it split cathode, I'd find an amp diagram on the metroamp site for a 68 or 69 with split cathode, and try and copy that, it's a lot easier than following an explanation.

Besides, that one thing wont make a very large difference at all. Its one of many things that makes a difference together. If you think your amps all the sudden gonna get a lot more cut and tightness it won. I have that on a switch in one of my clones and it only makes a subtle difference on its own.

Im curious what made you want to go that route?

Yeh I expected a large (well, reasonably noticeable) difference by switching cathodes at V2 on my amp from:

820ohm / 820ohm + .68uF / 820ohm + 330uF

yet the difference is not really that noticeable. As I expected, the 820ohm has less gain and is clearer, the .68uF boosts the mids ever so slightly, and the 330uF sounds a bit thicker. Maybe it's just because I've got different speakers and I'm using a PPIMV and pentode/triode switch, but with the Ralle spec I've got a closer EVH sound with the .68uF than the 330uF.

Sometimes we say this makes a huge difference or that but we're speaking relatively. In the grand scheme of things a slight cathode value change wont make a huge difference. it can but not there.

Would the difference be more noticeable with or without more power amp distortion? (or same throughout)
