Heater wires

Wow are those a bitch.

It took me forever, Jon would have laughed his ass off. Anybody have any tips for a newbie that's all thumbs?
I've got a 100 watt restoration project in the works, and I'd like to do a really good job.

one end in a vice, the other end in a drill. wind em' tight and neat

The wire that comes with George's stuff is a little resistant to staying twisted tight. Some slightly smaller guage wire will twist up easier and stay a little tighter (wire type dependent to some degree.)
If you saw that build that Omar from the Trainwreck site did and how tight his heater wiring was wound, note the you can tell from the pictures that it is a much smaller wire.

Flames, I saved all Omar's pics for reference. That was a sweet build.
Does Radio Shack carry the type of wire you mention?

I'd have to see someone using the "drill technique", cause I was twisting and soldering in the chassis. Expletives were uttered in frustration.

it doesn't seem to make much difference in hum reduction to twist them really tight IME. You see in some real old 18-watters that Marshall used zip cord, so maybe parallel is about good enough. It won't hurt, but it seems to be enough just to twist some only for the sake of getting the wires to stay in place neatly. I wouldn't kill yourself over it.
