I would have paid $152 for good XF2 Mullards in a heartbeat.

That always happens to me. I get excited about winning an auction that I try to find something else to focus on in the mean time. Then I forget about the damn auction until 2 minutes after it ends a guitardood346 beats me by one dollar! I hate last seond bidders.

I was watching that auction too and forgot to bid!

Don't feel so bad. The chances of those tubes REALLY being matched are slim to none. Might have been 40 years ago. I've purchased MANY used, supposedly "matched" quads. NONE have EVER been reasonably matched. Just can't be done on the average low voltage tube tester. That's why I have dozens and dozens of old EL34's laying aroun. You almost have to start with a large batch and check them all. I run each tube individually at the same operating parameters in an old monoblock amp and measure the tubes idle current. I then pick from the bunch tubes that have similar readings.
