ppimv
i was thinking of maybe trying a ppimv on my rebuilt 800 and have some questions.first would i leave the amps master volume alone and just add the ppimv,or should i remove it?also if i remove it how should i rewire the input and treble pot?what kind of tone differances will there be with the new ppimv as compared to the stock mv.i really like this amp since i rebuilt it although the high end can still be pretty pierceing at loud volumes.any ideas would be great, but im in no hurry to change this because overall this amp smokes.thanks,Jason p.s. since i removed the effects loop i already have a hole in the back for the new pot.

If you have the holes in back why not leave your current master and add the PPIMV on in the back?? It may open up for some interesting distortion sounds when adjusting all three volumes to taste, and you can always dime the original MV to more or less remove it from being a factor.
Did you stick with the stock circuit when you went PTP? Some guys like leaving off the 470pF cap that goes across a 470K resistor between stages (over on the left side of the PTP board with the controls facing you.) Some guys also change the 470K resistor there to a 68K which helps darken things up a touch. If someone directs you to the tonelizard.com site for mods don't go any further into those mods than what I just described. That site will turn your amp into a buzzsaw in short order if you're not careful.

i did try the 68k on the input but didnt like the gain it gave, although it did warm up the sound a tad.maybe i should try just removing the 470 cap but leaving the 470 resister.i figured i would leave the amp as is and just adding the ppimv. i just wasnt sure how having both would interact with each other.jason
