Cabinet Restoration

Post by flemingmras » Thu Apr 08, 2004 11:59 am

I'm restoring my '69 Marshall straight front cabinet. The original owner ripped the tolex and grillecloth off and stained the cabinet as well as put spandex on for the grillecloth.

I have an order of "salt & pepper" grillecloth as well as black tolex and white piping coming in a few days.

Has anyone out there ever redone tolex on Marshall cabs? I have never done tolex before so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. What type of adhesive should I use also?

I think the 3M spray can of contact cement would be the best choice. That's what I use to put carpet on my homemade cabs and racks. You might need to sand down the finish a little to get a good grip.
