Hello, all.
I just bought a Fender Japan ST68-TX Stratocaster that comes loaded with Texas Specials. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I’ll admit I'm not a huge fan of the Texas Specials. I’d like to get a set of nice pickups for my new Strat. I searched through the forum, but the last pickup thread is 10 years old. I’d prefer a left-hand, vintage stagger for this set, as the body has the traditional pickup routing, so I can’t flip them backwards. What do you all feel are the best currently available pickups for Jimi’s tones?
Many thanks,
Brad

Hey Brad,
Check out Rumpelstiltskin’s Gypsy set of pickups. They’re grey bobbin, 5.6k range, and he offers all of the reverse stagger needs you would need. They sound amazing and really nail the Black and Woodstock Strat era tones. He also offers a set called the “Experience” which are a little bit hotter. I haven’t tried those but the clips I’ve heard sound fantastic.
Hope this helps!

Re: Best Pickups for Jimi- 2022?
Jimi used stock guitars, some with enamel wire and some with formvar wire. For this reason I think it’s hard to nail Jimi’s pickup sound. Maybe Jimi had a favourite guitar, it’s hard to know.
I don’t put much stock in Seymour Duncan Jimi pickups as I had never heard of them until I saw the SD ad for them. That’s not to say they are bad pickups, just that I haven’t read anything about Jimi liking the SD pickups, I’ve heard about Roger Mayer effects Jimi used though.
Regards
Mark
