you're right, there's no point to build some typical : "almost the real thing, reissue stuff, with new mods and modern parts" ...daveweyer wrote:Does this mean that if I were to come out with a pedal that anyone could build, say the Dave Weyer Woodstock Wah, that people would actually buy it? Even if Eddie had a similar pedal out which he called the Kramer Hendrix Wah? Who do you think people would believe had the real Hendrix circuitry worked out? My guess is he would have a lot more market penetration, I mean, who the hell is Dave Weyer?
Eventually, the pedal that worked the best might win out, but that also might be long after I had become just an entry in a history book.
One large electronics company got ahold of us about rights to the Woodstock Wah pedal circuitry. I told them that they would have to build it the old fashioned way if they wanted it to be authentic, get all the original parts made, like the Paktron film caps and so on. Otherwise, Hendrix freaks would realize it didn't have the right sound and start dissing the pedal as a fake.
Look at all the trouble Xplorer went to to get his Univibe to sound right.
Builders can go to a hell of a lot more trouble to get their gear to sound right than some corporation that needs to make a lot of money to satisfy shareholders. I'm sure most folks would prefer to buy, but could they afford the real thing?
