Winterland Tone

His guitar slung across his back, his dusty boots is his cadillac.

Winterland Tone

Post by theactor19 » Sun Oct 02, 2011 2:14 pm

So I got the new Winterland box set, and I've always loved the tone at these concerts, especially on red house, hear my train a coming, and killing floor. The tone was a bit darker, more rounded and airy with lots of mids. Which amp will get me closest to this tone?

thanks!

IIRC, there are plenty of photos from the same tour where he has two or three stacks with the old and battered pinstripe cabs, a black flag JTM100 and one or two JMP100s. Not sure what circuit is in the JMP100s, but I suspect the earlier 10-series with JTM45-style preamp.
JTM45 RS OT, 1973 18W, JTM45/100, JTM50, JMP50 1986, JMP100 "West Coast", AC15, AC30, BF Super Reverb, Boogie Mk 1, Hiwatt CP103, DR103

If anyone would know it would be you seeing as you have one of each of those amps. some of the songs sound like the Monterey Amp "Like A Rolling Stone" and others sound like the Black Flag, he was having tube and speaker problems that got worse by the last show he probably had one stack left. Dude you have to get the 8 LP Vinyl it sounds totally awesome :) :jimi: Yeah I have a 1970 Super Lead, it is within 100 of the last S/N Jimi was known to have ;) Shared Cathode with both 2203 and Lar Mar MV. Peace my fellow Jimi fan :jimi:

I think on some tracks off winterland he is using the fling v but i could be wrong, the first cd some sound like the v on some tracks and he doesn't use the whammy bar as much. :jimi:
